My thought is that if the enemy is that close, I've done something horribly wrong to begin with, or I'm running the lamps. Either way, I still think they're not ideal for pve. Fusion rifle is still a much better choice, even with the wider dispersion cone.

On anything harder then a Roc Strike I agree. Fully. If there is an Angry or Lightswitch modifier, or you are fighting a boss with a AoE melee, then I agree x2. On normal strikes though it might come in handy, but I will be sticking with my sniper rifle long term.
