The difference between “Overpowered” and “Effective”

Bungie, please learn it. Because something is consistent at clearing rooms doesn’t mean it’s overpowered, it’s just effective at its’ job. You nerf an effective, favourite weapon of the community, we’re forced onto the next because you make it unusable. We make good builds for said weapons, and you nerf again. Onto the next, cycle continues. How about buffing up other underused exotics to make them a desired option instead of a forced option? Maybe then, your game will feel better.

  • Have to agree, effective can lead to satisfaction, satisfaction leads to fun. Bungie see's effective as overpowered and nerfs it, resulting in said nerfed thing to collect dust in a vault or never be touched again.

Makes ad clear a flipping joke. Do I use it? Yes. But does it make the game boring when I clear the entire room with a melee? Also yes. Some nerfs force us to change our playstyle. Nothing wrong with that.

      • Saw a great meme on X earlier showing the difference between how devs think of strength vs how players do… Something like “we are getting overrun… let’s call down this orbital strike to clear a path and advance.” Vs “I need 300 more enemies to spawn to finish this task in one match.”

      • "We don't nerf based on usage numbers." Lie detected

      • Agreed. I've felt their overboard nerfs made things worse ever since Season of the Deep. That YAS nerf was such a stupid change and yet they do nothing to fix it when the much more reasonable change would be to reduce the energy restored in PvP. It could even be limited to 50% of the energy like they have done with super restore exotics. It's gotten so bad the game hasn't even felt fun for a long time now for me. I get on for an occasional dungeon and such, but with the nerfs and them adding minus power to said acitivites, even someone like Salt (who asked for nerfs to stuff like Well and Div despite them not actually being that OP unless you care even a bit about crucible) has admitted the game has gotten too hard.

      • I've always hated nerfs to weapons or builds just so they can push out the next big flavor of the season to force you to play their way. Just let people play how they want. What is worse is I have a vault full of weapons I would love to use, but they are just not that great in the current sandbox and haven't been for a long time. So many exotics that are underperforming and need buffs or changes to their perks to make them useful again.

      • I have never seen any developer in the history of gaming strive as much as this one has to make things more difficult than they even need to be. It's crazy how they just keep taking steps backward instead of moving forward. Everything in this game is literally on a waiting list to be nerfed, it's just a matter of time before its number is up. It's mind-boggling how after a decade they still can't figure out how to adjust the loot in this game properly. Even the difficulty in this game is out of place and I have never seen it this bad in any game, ever.

      • TFD allows space magic to be - space magic. One of the reasons i quit D2, everything that became fun got nerfed.

      • Don’t be silly OP. That would make the game fun. Fun is not allowed in Destiny as it’s all about the data and metrics. 🙃

      • Bungo doesn't know the difference between "challenging" and "chicken***t" either.

If Bungie balanced the game "perfectly", they would have half the work to do. Which means weapon balance team(s?) could be reassigned to do "real" development work on the game, or downsized as unnecessary. The problem, as I see it, doesn't actually exist. It is artificially created by balance team people to justify their existence and to avoid the "real" work that requires more than editing stat numbers for hours. Buff this, nerf that. Next month, the nerfed thing is rebuffed and the buffed one is taken down a notch. Players cry out for balance, and the stat adjusters consistently dance around the edge of the rim, keeping players on the edge of thinking "Next update, it'll be good." It's a shell game, keeping themselves busy by endlessly reshuffling the deck of cards rather than laying them out in an organized and consistent manner.
