Extraction shooters don't really go well with casual play.
Casual players probably won't make any good progress in extraction shooters because they will die a lot or because it's too stressful to play.
It's more for sweaty gamers
I believe the casual player base is much bigger than the sweaty player base.
Therefore if you're gonna ditch Destiny for Marathon you're ditching the majority of your players
This is all considering Marathon will be a RPG Extraction FPS
I will say though that imo if Marathon will be Free to Play and play good then Marathon will be received well

The progression form beginning to end is crazy to see and feel, especially if it’s your first souls game. Dying in an extraction shooter does not feel like it helps you grow, learn, and get better at the game They are not the same

Edited by A_mo: 8/10/2024 3:52:22 PMThere's people that play video games outside of those that play Destiny. You could even argue that this game shifted a lot of players out in order to onboard "casual" players. The two groups (if there is even such a thing) are probably similar in size and just because Destiny started to cater to more of a certain kind of voice over time doesn't mean that there aren't people out there that want something more straight forward in terms of how you get what you get out of it. Also, more casual types of player might do just fine if Marathon asks more of them. There's just a lot of people out there that if the game is going to do it for them they'll go right ahead and let the game do it. Then start to demand the game keeps doing it for them even if it comes at someone else's expense.

Maybe they’re not ditching Destiny. They wanted 3 active IPs and had several incubation projects to try and achieve that. They were overly ambitious and had to dial back their plans. Their main focus seems to be Marathon for now, but they are also keeping Destiny ticking along. Who knows, maybe they’ll alternate focus between those two titles — Destiny for PvE and Marathon for PvP.
