If you believe in reincarnation you must therefore believe animals make a conscious decision between good and evil because if you're a bad human a get reincarnated into a dog or something then its a broken system if the dog can't actively make good or bad decisions on his own. So ask yourself first if you believe animals and all living things can make these decisions on a daily basis.

Edited by Tekn0z: 1/14/2015 7:18:10 PMReincarnation is not about good or evil but about dharma, i.e. one's duty, a rough translation. What appears right to you may appear wrong to another. The sinking of the titanic was a miracle for the uncooked lobsters in its kitchen. It was a tragedy for the humans. The right or wrong in the dharmic philosophy is not black and white worldly justice. It is part of a "bigger picture", where even the greatest suffering is part of the harmony and perfect balance of the universe. A tiger's dharma may be to feed on deer,. playing its role in the universe. Killing a deer wouldnt for instance be considered a sin/evil for a tiger. It is its dharma. It is said that since man is capable of empathy, and having free will (in so far as his individual self is concerned) and being able to act upon it, he can stray from the dharmic path, the consequence of which he will face in his current incarnation or the next. So if you are reborn as an animal, you will play out your dharma near perfectly and soon get back to being able to be born as a human in the cycle of births. Many animals do have a certain amount of individuality and personality, so mileage may vary but eventually will fulfill its dharma and may be reborn as a human. The word karma means action. Karta means "doer" of the action. Karma also means the fruits of the action as well. When things happen to you , it is karma. How you react to it is also karma. However all said and done, it is also said that karma only applies so long as you identify yourself with the ego (your individual self).

Best answer! Thank you kind sir!

Hmmm. I still don't believe in it but I'll say you've given the best response and I'll have to go over it all again.
-
Yes. I think they can. Nature's standards of good and evil, however, are different than human's. So I think all creatures that are self-aware can make such choices,.
-
So you believe plankton or krill are self aware? What about ants are each one?
-
I would say that creatures are all something form of self-aware. Not to the same extent of each other, but aware enough to survive
-
But do you believe it can decern a good or evil action? When a bug falls into a spiders web the spider reacts immediately doing what it does best, it doesn't pause there is no thought if its making the best decision for it and the bug. So I guess would you say that's strictly a nerve reaction that falls into the said actions or did the spider actively think and know what it was doing? (Sorry that was rather lengthy)

Animals can't think like that therefore no we wouldn't be animals. If animals could think like that it would be a whole different world
-
True and therefore I don't believe in reincarnation for that reason.
-
Perhaps there is no good or evil just survival
-
Well if there is no good or evil then you've broken the premise of most religions and have defeated the purpose of this thread haha.
