First off, destiny is addicting as hell. What other game is out right now that you can spend your entire day playing and come back the next day for more? Nothing I can think of. Advanced warfare is good but I don't play it everyday. Dragon age 3 is great but I don't play it everyday. The evil within is good but I don't run back to it everyday.
There's something about destiny as a whole that keeps players investing time into it. That's where this game succeeds. You can bash all you want, bungie and activision are making BANK off this game. Why? Because of all the people buying their content. No matter what negative things are said about it.
Yes the story is not there yet, it's repetitive, it's limited, sometimes unfair, has plenty of flaws, etc... At the end of the day, everyone on this forum continues to play destiny. It's addicting. The hope for getting that next exotic, the joy of killing mobs of creatures with friends and seeing those blue engrams pop up. Getting a legendary engram after a strike. I personally asked for suros since November and just got it last week in a nightfall strike.
Destiny will last a very long time. It can only get better with each dlc release. The Dark Below isn't even that bad. The main flaw is the 2 and a half story missions. Bungie will learn from this and they will succeed. House of Wolves is next.

People keep coming back every day because they have designed the game to play on the addictive nature of people brilliantly. It takes so long to level things that I feel guilty missing even a days worth of bounties. By adding bounty slots and now the new Eris bounties/quests they have given us even more reason to spend a few hours a day doing those alone. I know personally I hate missing a day because I'm always leveling something and a days worth of bounties goes a LONG way. And it seems like every time I finally level something the game gives me something else I really wanted which makes me want to level that as quickly as I can too. It's funny how the game can almost read your mind sometimes. I got VoC in the VoG raid a few weeks ago. Yay! I love scout rifles. Power leveled it as soon as I could. Then I got a Shadow Price. Yay! I needed a good auto rifle. Level that thing up next. Just got my last damage upgrade on it and ran the raid with it last night and boom, Atheon's Epilogue. I've wanted Epilogue since I started raiding and I was really excited to get it. Now I'm leveling that one. In the meantime other nice weapons have been coming in faster than I can upgrade them and in the blink of an eye I've got a crapload of work ahead of me. Bungie set up the game to keep you wanting more. Here's a great gun, but if you want it to be really great you have to level it up, grind for materials, etc. As the content gets harder the rewards get better and your desire to keep up with the grind gets stronger.
