How good is SAO? I just finished watching Attack on Titan and Brynhildr in the Darkness (both were great, btw)
Should I start watching it?

Watch it and make your own opinion. I like it. You won't be putting it on your top 5 any time soon. But the hate it gets is mostly unreasonable, fueled by blind hatred and make it out to be the worst thing ever.

Enough for a picky person like me to choose Sao as my favorite anime of all time

It's shit. Pure, disgusting shit. There's a reason it's called Shit Art Online. Pick up a REAL anime that isn't trash like Darker Than Black or Spice And Wolf, but SAO is absolute garbage. It's filled with plot holes, a static main character that never loses or develops, a stagnant love interest, and harems and ass pulls in every episode. Watch DraconisMarch on Youtube and look up his review episodes of SAO (Their the first videos he made) and he will give you a very accurate and descriptive view of SAO and why you shouldn't watch it.

SAO is like the entry drug to a lot of anime lovers. It is really, really good, but a lot of people don't like how angsty it can get. It's def in my all time top 3 though. Try watching it, and if you like it, find the translated light novels online. They are about a hundred times better and a thousand times more detailed.
