What do you call a Post-Economic society?
When the idea of work and money become obsolete, what do you call such a society?
Think of Star Trek. Replicators make anything your heart could desire. What's the point of working for money? You work on what interests you, not what pays.
What type of economic system is this?

2 RepliesI'd be tempted to call it communism, but I don't think it really fits, because everyone was not equal. Even though they all may have the same goods and comfortable living available to them, reputation and intellect became the new currency. We see it today in research. While scientists make a comfortable living, they rarely are the ones that own or get rich off of their work. They are not driven so much by a profit motive, but by social ones. Nevertheless, they are still competing for a limited currency, which is notoriety and respect among peers. I'd call it capitalism, only property and currency have been replaced by reputation as the functional currency.

I suspect all attention would be turned to the arts, a field impossible to replicate (truly, at least). There would also be a greater focus on personal enrichment.
