It's normal. If you've never played online you will earn a lot more credits in all available game modes, but online you don't earn many from anything but Matchmaking. If your friend was to ever get Xbox Live they would lose a lot of their earned credits though. So, If i play a lot of matchmaking, then lose my xbl membership, would I gain more credits in forge than in matchmaking?

No. Once your account is hooked up to Xbox LIVE, Gold or Silver, you'll earn very little from Forging. Even if you were to turn your internet off and play online, because you have a LIVE account, you'll only be able to earn up to 1000 cR per day as that is the offline limit.
