The Spitfire.
Shame on any British person who doesn't know what a Spitfire is...
(I am American by the way if that last sentence caused any confusion...)

In all fairness, whilst the Spitfire was the better plane, it was the Hurricane that did most of the work during the battle of Britain. (On a side note, I live in Southampton, the place where the Spitfire was created and manufactured. My dad even works down where supermarine used to be down in Woolston)

A Spitfire is a Beer over here. I wouldn't be surprised if that was what popped into peoples heads at the mention of the word (because the beer popped into mine)

But did you know that Hurricanes actually shot down 70% of the aircraft in WW2. Spitfires are only famous due to the Battle if Britain.
