I find it interesting that you presume Destiny will have merchants.

Why wouldn't it? It's basically an MMO, especially as far as the Last City is concerned. How else would you buy basic guns, armor, ships (?), etc. without Merchants? I find it interesting that you find it interesting that he presumes Destiny will have merchants.

It is not basically an MMO. Bungie has said it has some MMP like features. Beyond that, we know almost nothing, and as such it is not wise to make such assumptions.

I was talking about the Last City. Which, from what I understand, will be basically like an MMO. Also, from the economy standpoint it should also work like an MMO I think. If it has any universal trading (Think: Auction House, Grand Exchange, etc.)

Then yes, that is a good point. I'm still waiting to see how they integrate things. I know you can get money by going into an arena of sorts, but am less sure how you will spend it. I know you can spend it on things like space ships. Not sure where or how you do this though.

I would also assume that you could acquire gold by normal gameplay. By going into dungeons and stuff. My theory is that you could buy Basic guns in some sort of shop in the Last City somewhere, then spend more money on upgrades for that gun. Or You find a sweet gun while you're out exploring, then upgrade that if you wanted too. It makes sense to me.

I'm not assuming the game will have currency at all, I just don't see Destiny as the kind of game that traditional vendors and currency would make sense. I imagine there might be bartering of treasure or something like that, but I don't think this is going to be like WoW.

For such a large game, merchants are going to be needed. There might be a pocket of civilization between mission objectives so you can stock up instead of going all the way back to the Last City. Trading between players isn't enough. I could only imagine Destiny will have merchants. There is no other way for such a game. Think Fallout, Skyrim, Deus Ex, etc.

People assume a lot of things. Although, merchants is one of the most believable i believe.
