Thanks for reaching out.
If you're found lacking and cannot open the portal, a workaround, as you said, is to get someone who is able to open it to activate it on your behalf. However, if this doesn't work for you, you should complete more secrets in the area in order to become eligible to open the portal yourself, which is the original, intended method.

Thank you. This is helpful. I have found enough secrets for the seasonal challenge. Any idea how many are needed to access the portal?

Hi again, It's best to complete all the secrets. Also, please make sure you're on the Path of Ambition and have progressed the seasonal quest past Act 2. Having Barrow-Dyad equipped may help as well.
