Destiny 2 is an MMO Video Game. In a similar vein to Final Fantasy XIV, everyone who plays through the game's story is the main character of the story. Both have customizable characters, so the Guardian/Warrior can look however the player wants, be whatever race the player wants, and be whatever class the player wants.
Simply put, The Guardian is whichever one of your three characters you are playing as.
Even in lore, we are just referred to as The Guardian and are referred to as "they" in this particular lore tab: https://www.ishtar-collective.net/entries/a-deals-a-deal That way, we can slot in the Guardians we create to be our characters into that spot in the lore.
Given the Raids are canon, we can assume that the Guardian typically works with a fireteam of three, or six Guardians, with the other five being of a similar level of skill as the Guardian.

Cutscenes seem to suggest that all of the Campaigns are completed “Solo” with exceptions like Final Shape where our Fireteams included the likes of Crow, Cayde, Ikora, etc. Raids would suggest that we complete said missions with Guardians of similar capabilities, but that’s sounds really weird because non of the other Fireteam members are mentioned outside of certain dialogue snipits that change depending on your completion of the Raid or not. I would argue that The Guardian is the only real character of note within said Raids and is essentially carrying the full fireteam. Also, the Final Shape is just one Big Raid. 1. The Guardian 2. Ikora 3. Zavala 4. Crow 5. Cayde It’s just a low man completion.

The Last Wish cinematic has Petra Venj state that six Guardians were called upon to slay Riven. Furthermore, the Excision opening cutscene has Zavala talking about the fireteam that infiltrated the Witness' monolith. It is rather clear that, from a story perspective, the canonical Guardian always runs through them in a fireteam of six. There are even canonical names for players who started in Destiny 1, and those who started in Destiny 2 - the Old Russia and Red War Cohorts, respectively: https://www.ishtar-collective.net/entries/outliers https://www.ishtar-collective.net/entries/message-from-aunor-iii https://www.ishtar-collective.net/entries/passivity We also know from the Hidden Dossier that VIP #2014 i.e. the player character, is one of a number of powerful Guardians risen from the Cosmodrome: You once told me that you consider VIP #2014 to be a real friend. Someone you trust implicitly. But #2014 was forced to use Stasis during the events on Europa. I know #2014 is just one of a number of powerful Guardians from the Cosmodrome cohort, but there's no question they're an influence on their peers. Also, this voice line from Saladin during Season of the Chosen: https://www.ishtar-collective.net/transcripts/challengers-proving-ii-mission-briefing To make a long story short, player Guardians are considered part of the Cosmodrome cohort, since it is the territory where some of the best Guardians are resurrected from. We can presume that any Guardians that accompany the canonical Young Wolf in Raids are from that cohort.

Of course. I wasn’t arguing that the Guardian ran Raids solo. Just that he ran the Campaigns solo outside of the main characters like Ikora and Crow. What I was saying conversely is that the Guardian is the only significant character of note to participate within the raids, partially because he may be the only individual to consistently be a member of each respective raid. My other thought process is that the Guardian is by all intents the most powerful individual of the respective fireteam. As has been stated in the lore Ikora is an incredibly powerful Guardian. The 1% of the 1% of the 1%. 5th Sigma as stated (3rd sigma being roughly greater than 97% of guardians if I remember my statistics correctly). And the fact of the matter is that the Guardian is stronger than Ikora. Savathune only took Ikoras threats seriously back in Witch once the Guardian stepped up. It has been stated multiple times that people are perturbed and disturbed by the Guardians combat, and absolute brutality. The Hive Lightbearers, who are roughly on the same level as the Average guardian in power level (but not skill) get mowed down by The Guardian. Why is this important. If Ikora is such an excedingly rare Guardian, and we already have individuals like Shaxx, Pre Nerf Osiris, and Shaxx, what is the likelihood that we would get a multitude more of Guardians of roughly equal strength to The Guardian. The point I was trying to make is that the Guardian CARRIES when it comes to raids (I can’t remember where I read this, but back in Red War wasn’t there a lore tab that said the Guardian was beating Shaxx in combat 3-1 by that point. Similarly, Ikora had gone undefeated within the Crucible, including against Shaxx. Back in Red War and possibly before that, we were already around Ikoras level. Maybe we were not as skilled as her or Shaxx, after all, The Guardian is apart of the Old Russian Cohort, meaning by that point, the Guardian was only 5ish years old since they Rose)

I wouldn’t call excision low man.

Excision was the first time that we had the whole of the Coalitions forces attacking a singular target. It’s not a Raid. It’s a Super Raid.

Super raid! Kills bugs… and people!

Don’t forget the Exos. We need to make sure those commie scum- wait, wrong game.
