The changes to Rahool to earn new exotics is beyond punishing for returning players.

My playtime has reduced more than drastically due to life changes and simply not wanting to play. As a result, I come back and in looking to get one of the new exotics, I can't go earn it, I have to grind out activities in hopes of getting exotic engrams to reset Rahool's rank entirely, which is also expensive if you want to get it done quickly. I get the desire to not have all the exotics earned in one day from lost sectors, but this system is actively removing my desire to play and make a new build with a new exotic because they are tied behind a complete unknown amount of hours of gameplay that I cannot dedicate, so like...why bother.

  • Yeah, my wife's been having the same problem. Destiny isn't her main game, so she doesn't play it as much as me, and as a result, she has yet to earn any of the new exotics since Final Shape launched, because she just doesn't play enough and isn't rich enough to max out Rahool before the season resets. It's such an awful system, and just another thing that's pushing casual players out of the game.

    • Run 9 strikes per character plus the season pass ones plus you can grab last season’s exotic engrams it takes almost no time rank around make sure you focus the engrams you get like 5x the experience it takes about maybe 10 engrams and you are done it’s really not too bad

      • I mean it’s annoying how long it takes to rank up unless you stockpile resources. But at least after you can focus them. Much, much, better than lost sectors in that regard.

        • ? There's no bias. It requires the same thing from all players = 1 Rahool reset. Vets don't have some magical power over engrams that returning players don't have. It also removed the slot machine aspect from running tired old lost sectors, allowing you to get exactly what you want.

        • Even if you didn't save engrams, you can passively get the engrams needed to rank up rahool. Especially with the idea of getting ciphers instead of using ascendant shards to do the focusing that gives you 500 rep per engram. Do strikes and get your engrams and also you get engrams from the season pass. All you need is 12 engrams to rank up and that's also not including prime engrams you get that are 100 rep each. The problem, I think, is that people only focus on grinding for ONE thing rather than efficiently grinding for things that could be passive (seasonal engrams, materials, candy, xeno quest progression, pathfinder pinnacle, exotic engrams from ritual, rep for selected ritual activity, strange coins, etc.)

          • I disagree, this way u can just save 25-30 exotic engrams near the end of an episode; when an expansion is coming, and instantly rank reset when it drops for free. Also, exotic engrams drop plenty now, and with the option to straight up buy the exotic u want, or in my case buy all 3 new exotics at the same time has removed a tedious sector grind for me. That’s just my opinion though

          • I prefer Rahool's system instead of Lost Sectors. It takes time, but in the end, you get what you want sooner or later.

            • So you don't have the time to play and the changes they made which make it easier to obtain exotics is too much for you to do?

You can literally buy the exotic you want… What more could you possibly ask for

                • I really don't understand the complaint. Instead of grinding ONE specific activity for all the new exotics, you are now allowed to play ANY activity you want in order to get to them. I don't see how grinding lost sectors in the first week to get them all would yield you more playtime than the current system which, again, allows you to play whatever you want and still get progress towards it. It really just sounds like you don't like playing Destiny anymore, which is totally fine btw.

I didn’t mind ranking Rahool up to unlock new exotics the first time. But to hell with needing to do it over again after they reset it.

                  • These posts are so absurd and self centered. You want them to change something that’s extremely popular with most players because your life is different now. It’s not punishing in any way and is a way better system.

                    • It’s actually better. I hate playing pve so boring and mindless, brain melting. I can just play trials or PvP and get engram drops then reset to get an exotic i don’t have.

                    • Focus your engrams and it’ll go by a whole lot faster,I spent my xenology thingies but it really did make it a million times faster,I kinda wish there was a guide or something, some sort instructions tab on vendors and stuff.

                    • This old tortoise likes the new system, once I’d figured it out. Just by doing vanilla stuff, eg, haunted stuff, etc., I acquired all new exotics for each character. 🎃 Previously, I never bothered doing the higher level LSs… Horses for courses… 👈 That is all. Ease Springs! 🫡

                    • I'm still trying to figure out how to get the new exotics. I have rahool maxed out to rank 16. I could reset but my understanding is not too. I keep opening the exotic engrams I get but still not dropping any of the new warlock exotic chest piece rime coat raiment. I can't focus it either. Says to go to collections. When I do this it's still not available. Doing expert lost Sectors was so much easier than this mess.

                      • They changed it from skill based to investment based. Low skill players that interact with the game semi-frequently can now get the new exotic armor. But high skill players that spend very little time with the game in general are getting it less. Bungie likely noticed that the interaction rate with legend and master lost sectors wasn’t getting much benefit and fewer people were interacting with the new exotic armor - which is a significant dev investment. If you play the game at all, you’ll get the exotics within the first couple weeks (that’s about the amount of time most players used to level before farming legend lost sectors). And if you’re good at the game, you should have easy access to the materials that drastically speed the process up like Cyphers and Ascendant shards.

                        • How? If you play the game at all, you'll get enough Engrams in no time to reset him. You can even get nine Exotic Engrams every week guaranteed by doing playlist activities on all three of your characters. Do Excision on all of them, and that's another three Exotic Engrams.

                        • I haven't got any of the new exotic armor. We need random exotics to drops from anywhere instead of an engram.
