I have been thinking about this A LOT lately and I wanted to see what other people thought of it. I have come to the idea that a sound based power will be our new subclass
First part of this is of course seeing how it’s the “light and darkness saga” we must look at the colours
Solar orange= Stasis Navy
Void purple= Strand green
Arc blue= ? Red
So now that we have these inversion in mind what themes in game can we associate with red that are close to powers. This then made me think of nightmares and how these are just voices in our head that drive us to do bad things and pessimism
If we use this logic and look at arc what does energy do to us well it creates light it makes people run around and do sporty things while giving some optimism ( yes this is a reach but so is strand and void to a degree)
Next thing I want to do is talk about the sound wave and show how similar yet different it is to the light wave. I think fundamentally all dark subclass can relate to a sound wave (shatter and suspend) where bungie really likes to emphasise sound in these subclass. As for light well I think it’s very self explanatory but as for examples we have (ignite, jolt and volatile). Both of these waves have a the traits of a wave such as amplitude frequency and resonance the latter which is a good candidate for a verb of some sort like amplify in arc but of course these waves come from completely different sources one comes from the electromagnetic spectrum and another comes from longitudinal waves both can be reflected and diffracted but we need different senses to detect both and both of these senses(hearing and seeing) are fundamental for understanding the world and gaining information
TLDR; these waves are different but equally as important as the other
Ok now that we’ve got all that out of the way why sound? Well first of all I can imagine a place where there is a sonic/sonar subclass that consists of inducing not electricity but sound into an enemy (emanate)and being able to manipulate the sound waves so that you can (resonate) with an enemy leaving them vulnerable and then make them expel that energy (terminate) to other enemies making them loose health and gaining a resonate debuff (Tinitus) this debuff being the sound equivalent to blind light-sound. There may also be a fourth Verb that buffs you similar to radiant and woven mail like increasing RoF idk (onslaught 2.0?)
Final point I want to make is how this ties into “darkness subclass ideology” where darkness is all about the mind and consciousness of the universe now you could say each subclass is like an emotion with stasis being anger and strand being happiness
Stasis as we are told mainly comes from anger and absolutely loosing your -blam!- while your full of rage
Strand we are told to let your connection flow through you and to use it to your advantage making you Spider-Man and connections do make you happy
Sonic could be embracing the anguish and dread of lose and using it to inflict pain and suffering onto your enemies this makes me think of it being the “sad” class to complete the trifecta. As for the question “isn’t this too dark?” I present Beyond light
That’s basically my crackpot idea. I would love to see what other people thought of this since I think it fits every aspect of the darkness and is like strand where we thought it was poison and now think it’s resonance but this just seems like a bungie subclass that we could get
Maybe a storyline with Nezerac will be where we finally get to cream.

There a lot of emotions/mental things that bungie can explore like: rage, sadness, fear, schizophrenia, embarrassment, bravery, happiness(I think strand is calmness due to us “flowing in the river” to control strand), amnesia

There's an alternate ending cutscene that shows the Guardian healing Ghost using a Blackish, Purplish power that has spikey tendril like behavior. That might be the third darkness power since the animations and particle behavior and identity has already been made. Might be based on reanimation and transfiguration.

IMO: and just from an art standpoint, it would be cool if they switched Arc to Yellow, and a new Darkness subclass to Red. That way they would have the three primary colors and the three secondary colors. That’s just my preference, as someone with a background in art. New Darkness Concept Ideas: To think of this, we should consider: 1. How to make a power that doesn’t function like the other subclass. Not only in terms of verbs used, but also in look and function. 2. If a new darkness subclass power is thought of: Is there enough identity to build at least three different supers- one for each class, along with the other abilities. Things that are new and useful, but that doesn’t overlap what’s already out there. 3. How does it look/ play visually in game? If the subclass was say, sonic or sound-wave related, how does that translate to the look of it in game? IMO: the top ideas that come to mind: 1. Physic- during WQ, we randomly were introduced to these physic abilities- those we used to make platforms appear. So maybe they could build off of that? 2. Sonic/ or Sound waves as you suggest. Could be neat and it would be a good opposite of Arc, or any of the light subclass. I just don’t know if you could get three different supers out of it, along with the aspects/ fragments and other abilities. 3. Maybe some kind of parasite, or spore, or corrosion? I think a spore-like power could be the easiest. Let the guardian effect area with different kinds of spore damage. 4. Maybe we could use the power of each animal that is represented by the class. It could be a use of Nature to defend the universe. So each super and ability could be built around what that animal/ or each class represents. We wouldn’t have to go full Druid and change into animals, but each power could represent those animals. Hunter = Snake Warlock = Eagle Titan = Lion Anyway that’s more of an out of the box idea. Anyways, good topic.

SIVA is red. Infuse SIVA with Resonance to create a Plague subclass, make it red. Instead of connection via electricity make it cause division to form the opposite of Arc.
-
You used the word Resonate. Resonance already exists. It’s about opposites. Arc is life, the opposite isn’t a theme that fits Darkness as ‘consciousness’ So I’m not expecting them to do a third subclasses.

Edited by Architect Mind: 10/22/2024 10:46:05 PMI would think Grav waves. But at that level you're interfering with...it would feel horrible...moving atoms even their subatomic orbits...geez the -blam!- you could do. Vibration is all over this, the tone on your final death, oracles singing and wiping you from existence.

I would love to engage in this but we aren't getting more darkness subclasses.
and gaining a resonate debuff (Tinitus) this debuff being the sound equivalent to blind light-sound.
Ummmm. If the sound wasn't purposely ear hurting maybe? There are interesting things that could probably be done with the concept of sound and concussive forces but even typing that makes my head hurt. There's definitely a lot of cool sounds and things they could do with sound but I guess I would just be hesitant to want to experience anything particularly high pitched as form gameplay advantage/disadvantage.

Bungie is never going to give the players something the expect. We may think we are getting a Red or Yellow Subclass and while we may be able to easily predict that, chances are, it will be a power we haven’t seen before. This is proven with Strand. They didn’t want to give us the expect hive necrotic powers, so instead, they gave us strand, and honestly, I think that was better than any idea the community could come up with. Simply put, any idea we have of a related darkness power to these colors needs to be taken with a grain of salt. We are not getting Nightmares. We are not getting Resonance. Maybe an Enrage/Berserker subclass that deals with Anger where Stasis deals with Will and Strand deals with Calm.

would be pretty cool if we could do the scream that grim do
