I think people are upset about the unsunsetting due to the fact that Bungie told us that sunset was the only solution to keep the game going, while everyone was against, and now they tell us that sunset ( or limited power gears IYW) are not something good, which was what we told to bungie in the first place
and now they tell us that sunset ( or limited power gears IYW) are not something good, which was what we told to bungie in the first place
Well, no, they aren’t changing their minds because they suddenly decided Sunsetting was the wrong decision. What they actually said in the TWID is that keeping the reduced Light Levels of Sunset Gear doesn’t make sense anymore with the Fireteam Power feature (which is designed to allow players to engage with higher end content alongside their friends even if they haven’t necessarily spent the past month grinding out their Light) coming with TFS. This should be readily apparent because automatically raising the Power Level of everyone in a fireteam to five below the leader (provided they aren’t already higher) while keeping Sunset gears at their reduced LLs would mean that: 1) Solo Players would not be able to use Sunset Gear in this fashion without incurring the originally intended penalty, and 2) Fireteam Leaders in higher LL activities would essentially be railroaded into using non-Sunset gear while everyone else could load in with a Sunset weapon in every slot and still be able to function adequately. Penalizing Solo players and Fireteam Leaders alone does not make for a healthy gameplay environment. - That being said, many players are understandably upset because they deleted gear that they may have spent several tens of hours grinding the same content over and over to attain, under the belief that these items would not be viable at any point in the future; this is an entirely valid viewpoint to hold. Far less valid is the argument that by reversing Sunsetting the devs have essentially “lied” to players as to the necessity of the decision in the first place. To those I would say: 1) Power Creep will always be a concern for a dev that wants to create interesting content that meets a minimum level of challenge for the playerbase, and 2) With the introduction of Stasis and Strand, the devs completely changed the baseline of what constituted Power Creep within the game as they decided to rework the Light Subclasses and a variety of weapon Perks with 3.0 verbs (making Recluse’s former add clearing capabilities look quaint by comparison). In response to the second point the devs made several decisions to reintroduce difficulty by adding new and more abundant modifiers to various activities, rebalancing various Perks and Mods and modifying the benefits of the Resilience stat. The game is much more centered on capable buildcrafting than ever before, rather than grinding away for a specific “easy victory” weapon. (΄◉◞౪◟◉`)

 • Sure, my previous statement was wrong, but this is how i felt last TWID. I was there during Beyond Light and it was an heartbreaking moment to say goodbye to gears we spent hours to get and even more with.. But joke aside, as you said, the game has changed. Power shift from weapon to abilities/builds and on top of that, except mountaintop, most pinnacle traits were reintroduced in a nerfed version making them weak when compared to 3.0 traits (incandescent, voltshot..) In the end, i don't think people are upset about the unsunsetting, but because most of them deleted beloved gears as they thought bungie would never unsunset
