Transmog is a slap in the face for players.

This has been a topic that has been discussed for awhile now, with Bungie stating their intentions for a transmog system seasons prior. During this time some players have gotten excited for crafting out their future looks and how they want to express themselves going forward. Throughout this Bungie could have specified or consulted the player base in a previous TWAB on their proposed implementation of this system. Perhaps this was purposely vague prior, as they knew their desired method would upset the fans and would be somewhat anti-consumer. Due to this timing, countless armour has been deleted that would not have been otherwise, in favour of aesthetics over optimal stats, with DMG posting “You don’t need armour pieces in your vault when Transmog goes live for them to be eligible. Collections based. Free up some vault space.” This is true, however this comes with a very real world cost. This system pushes you to pay for armour looks you have previously earned, and gates your progress to ask for this money during a time where people on a global basis have been dramatically effected, in some cases hurt very much financially. This late announcement seems strategic, even if they go back on this, the excuse of this taking time to change will be used, as countless players in the meantime spend more money. Players should have been consulted sooner, instead of getting them excited and then forcing an anti-consumer system on them, exploiting the players wishes.

  • Well, it didn't exactly come out as an surprise. Year ago, May 2020 TWAB (?), they specified that it'd be service available with Silver or in-game effort, and knowing how these services work - in-game effort will always be made more tedious to make spending money on it more tempting choice. Not saying that I'd be for it - I'm not planning to spend Silver on it. But it's still interesting how many are this surprised by this move.
