I love Destiny, but the community?

I love Destiny 2, I really enjoy playing the game with my friends or even just by myself. The thing I do not like is when the players I play or compete against are sore losers. Every game of Gambit I play is always not fun because of the players I encounter in the game mode. I understand it is not the most fun too play among the other core playlists but when almost every game I join and I see a player afk farming or a team who gives up after the enemy team calls their prime evil first, I start to not have fun. It is not fun when you lose and I know you just want the game to end quicker because of it but that's just unhealthy and ruins the experience for everyone else. And the fact that I see that in every team I am on or every enemy team I go up against, I just feel like not playing Gambit if I know every game is like that. (So far it has been every game) The community may be fine with that but I am not and I am sure, or at least I hope, Bungie isn't either and plans to do something to make Gambit a more joyful experience for both the winning team and losing team.

    • Everyone wants their stuff first and in a game like destiny that means the fundamentals get left behind. My farming buddy almost hit 1310 and when he does I know that won’t run pinnacles anymore so it’ll be me and lfg for the rest and this is someone I played with since the beta of d1. Can I blame him for being further than me in the power grind and then wanting to farm other activities even though previously we were side by side? Not really I often think, there’s so much time needed to get what you want and often doesn’t align with other players. Trials is a big example of this, people doing whatever they can to get their loot regardless of how it affects the community etc. Same with bounties, to level a lot more xp you need the bounties but they are more efficient to do solo and thus the game modes get diluted with players in them for many different reasons.

Comeback loot.

      • Easiest, quickest weekly pinnacle right now - 3 gambit matches. Seems to go by quicker than even the 3 vanguard strikes. So, I do them. Not too bad. Rage quit yesterday after seeing two AFKers & got Bungie notice I was ruining the experience or something. Sorry 😐

      • Bruh I was playing some Mythic level comp tonight doing serious sweaty games using Eriana Steady hand. And we had some insane 4-3 games that went both ways and every single game the enemy team bagged. I don't understand why that's when you bag. It was the definition of a good game and the matchmaking working. It was really funny when they'd bag on a round win and then lose the game and orbit.

        • Theyre probably just doing bounties or the weekly challenge...because, you know...imagine caring about gambit.

        • How deep are we talking because I get it if you have at least 60 to 70 motes in and they call it in and you see you have a fighting chance so you keep pushing but if it’s like less than 50 and they give up that’s understandable being that boss can now be super squashed with a bubble ,tether ,swords , and high damage exotic heavys/specials. The problem is pvp in general though. this community is like a spoiled child that’s had everything handed to them. idk if you grew up with cod in its golden days xbox360 online and all but if you did then I needn’t say more 👐🏽.

        • That's always been a problem in Destiny 2 it is a great game Bungie is a somewhat good company when they actually listen to people's advice. However the community has not been what it was since 2014 it became more toxic over the years. When I started to play in 2014 example if you were doing a patrol some random person might say hey what's up you want to do a raid or something. True story that's how I did my first raid. Back then people in the community actually help each other we treat each other with respect. Just like recently in Destiny 2 I found a really friendly person who helped me and somebody else to do Master Presage. That rarely happens anymore to find someone who cares enough to actually help somebody in the community. I help people but most people who want help they just want people just to carry them for everything.

        • I hate the players that are not afk... And they stay back and try to throw bullets into enemies while standing guard in a safe location. Or stand in the middle waiting to invade and act like they are carrying the game. There are so many factors due to a players mind that ruin the experience. So honestly, it is not the players to blame. I truly hate the connections that ruin the experience. I hate that there is no consistent power levels with a player due to an evolving enemy power level. Rng enemy power levels if you will. If you are winning, the enemies hit harder and take more bullets to kill. If you are losing, they get easier. Or randomly just do either. All going on with the lag the infects this game. There are so many things to hate this game mode for... that seeing afk players or players that give up is understandable more than looked down upon for me. A rocket launcher that can mark targets in a split second and hunt them down while hiding behind cover or an lmg that is better than any sniper in the game with unlimited ammo is infuriating. A titan exotic that melts the prime evil in a matter of two seconds is not balanced: The rng for desirable loot is beyond stupid and the players time is not respected. I go in. I give it my all... but when you grind endlessly and get bad rng and deal with everything above... then to most players.. the incentive to care declines. Do not blame the players. Blame the game mode and bungies inability to be on to top of their game and respecting the players that truly try to enjoy the game. You know what happens when a player finally gets the reward they want in any playlist with bad rng and have to overly grind said mode? They stop playing it. PvP, pve, and PvP/pve modes. You know what happens when the game continuously wastes a players time? The same thing. Bungie wants this to be a live service game... except for when it comes to maintaining and balancing it. ^ this is why so many players get salty and then in their mind, create their negative points of view. Usually blaming and fighting each other rather than looking at the root of the issue.

            • AFK players are an issue because Bungie insists on routing players through content that they don't enjoy playing either for the sake of progression.....or in order to get loot that can't be gotten anywhere. else. I presume its bad in Gambit right now, because Gambit is the only place to get the newest hand cannon....and the drop rate is painfully low. So when you do that to playes, they push back and try to find ways to break your game in order to make it reward their time in a more reasonable way. I don't agree with people doing it....but I understand why the feel compelled to do it. No one likes feeling controlled, and Bungie has a bad habit of trying to micro-manage and orchestrate everything.

              • When I choose to play with other random people, I play to win, but don't mind losing. Randoms have their own priorities. If I wanted to win, I'd make a premade team so I can have a devoted invader and then I can make sure the other guys are ready to dominate by coordinating and communicating.

              • Heres my rule when it comes to Gambit, especially when I solo queue: I go in, I play, and what happens, happens. I dont sweat the results, I just play. Sometimes cool stuff happens, sometimes I get rolled. But its ok. I dont log on thinking "yeah I wanna play some gambit" but then the thought of playing it doesnt fill me with existential dread either 😁

                • I think players go afk more towards the end of the season than the beginning. The maps are stale, the yellow bar bullet sponges are annoying, the lagging/jump around boss is a pain, the splash damage from the vex is really overkill, and the scorn just suck....... I enjoy watching people run over each other to grab motes but ignore the big clanging "you're losing motes" warning bell to go chase the big shiny high value target. Also how about banking before you go through the portal to save the day? When the Drifter says you have enough motes to call up the primeval, toss them in the bank and let's get moving.

                • I’d honestly like to see a skill based RNG. Based on your skill and placement within the team is what determines your drops. It would halt AFK farming in my opinion. It also revives that competitive nature the game mode was supposed to instill.

You're not looking at the bigger issue. There are a LOT of things wrong with Gambit. No freelance, motes falling through the floor, enemy spawns and abilities not working properly, too much steamrolling and not enough exciting close matches, a lack of new maps despite a $40 expansion that just dropped... Oh, and the only real piece of new loot to incentivize players is ONE hand cannon with a terrible drop rate. For a loot-based game, this is just bad design. Full stop. That's why many players want to spend as little time in the mode as possible. If you want to try and fix the community, you have to fix the game.

                • People playing solo tend to forget they're playing on a fireTEAM and should try to support that team's efforts as much as they can. It's a big ask though, apparently. I fight to the bloody end, win or lose, whether with my clan or blueberries.

                  • I think you’ll find it has something to do with bungie pushing players into game modes they simply don’t like through bounties and gear drops.

                  • While I get what your saying, I solo que'd into 15 Gambit games in a row yesterday, was grinding Bottom Dollar (don't know why, I suck at PvP). I didn't really have any of those problems, from what I could tell people played the match till the end, every once in a while someone would drop out, but it wasn't the norm.

                  • AFK players are a known issue since Destiny 2 "The Curse of Osiris" for what I can remember, when many players used to AFK in PvP just to get the Mile Stone. But I'm afraid there is no much one can do about it. I've never heard of a system that can recognize an AFK player or a Player that just does nothing of concrete during an Activity.
