When the vast majority of players are now on current gen consoles, they make the best business decision by dropping last gen. Sure it sucks to those on legacy consoles. But this was going to happen sooner or later.
Realize that in the long run this will be a positive for Destiny. Maybe not fair, but life is not fair.
Also you will enjoy current gen consoles a lot more. They are vastly better in almost all ways.

I have no doubt that your statement is correct, but why is it, that I need to buy a new ttk disc to work on the platform? I already paid for it. Can you not go to xbox live and just download the whole program right now?

While I agree in principle that if you buy it once you should be able to use it on a different platform without having to repurchase it. But here is why that option doesn't make logical sense for Bungie or any game studio. 1. It cost money to develop the game on 4 different console platforms. A lot of money. 2. Each game comes with a user license, dlc content locked to a single platform. If the option existed to simply move the license to a new console, you would be giving 2-4 licenses for 1 copy of the game. This would be abused by some. But more importantly it doesn't financially pay for all the development costs for those 4 versions of the game. I think a fair compromise would be to offer a discounted upgrade option for legacy console owners (20% to 50% off for the upgrade as long as same gamer tag is used). But that is wishful thinking and unlikely to happen. But in the case of Destiny, I think it would pay for itself in the positive publicity from the community for the nice gesture.
