What exactly would you be doing in Destiny right now? Because you can still play crucible. You can still run strikes. You can do the story. You can patrol. The only things you can't do are high level end game content. Which makes sense because the level cap increase is part of the dlc. Even if they opened the nightfall up for you it wouldn't be doable.

How is it useless? You didn't pay to upgrade your character like most of us did so you shouldn't be able to play the new stuff it's plain and simple. You can still do your mission,strikes,crucible , raids,prison. They are all relevant to your character, it's what you paid for. It's like paying to see a movie and then a sequel comes out and you want it for free.
