They offer no significant advantage to their legendary counterparts.
I can agree Ghorn was a crutch and partially attribute that to terrible mechanic design, but this does not change the fact the other exotics are not worth their slots.
I think they provide enough of an edge to be considered special. keep in mind exotics aren't supposed to be op as hell and have you one shot everything (an exaggeration) they are supposed to be special. But when it comes to Ghorn, it's unique perk essentially gives the damage of 2 rockets for the price of one. add tracking on every shell and prox detonation and it becomes way to powerful for so little skill. so powerful that it has created toxic elitism in the community. trying to go to an lfg site without ghorn is going to get you bullied really fast. people won't add you without ghorn. that is the main reason bungie nerfed it

I never used ghorn as a gate, and didn't have one until a month ago, have been playing since beta, and have been able to have a blast doing many raids.
I did most of my hard crotas with other tracking rockets.
didn't say it was impossible to play without one, but if you go to the recruitment section for hard mode raids and POE I can garantee you'll find elitists demanding ghorn.
