I played exclusively gambit today with a group of 4 from about 10 am to 8 pm, with roughly an hour break in-between for lunch. in that time, I did not get a SINGLE drop of bottom dollar, and my group only had 1 in total. I believe this is absolutely ridiculously low of a drop chance for a weapon that is not supposed to be extremely rare.
Lets do some math. We each had masterworked ghosts with the mod that lets us get two gambit drops per round. We played 36 games of gambit in 9 hours, giving us 288 chances for the hand cannon to drop. we got 1. that's approximately a 0.36% chance of a drop. That is completely unacceptable. Most gacha games, whose core mechanics revolve around low drop rates, have better odds than that.
Furthermore, considering that this is the only competitor to the igneous hammer, which casual players cannot acquire due to the absolutely unacceptable amount of cheating and unfair matchmaking that goes on in trials, this is absurd. After winning ONE MATCH on ONE CARD, we were facing gilded flawless teams. not a single one of us has ever even won 2 matches on a card, EVER. HOW is that fair? How is that FUN?
My experience with your game this weekend has been nothing short of detestable. I fail to see the wisdom in not having skill based matchmaking in modes outside of completive, and I especially fail to realize why trials of all modes would not have skill based matchmaking as the primary factor over anything else. If you really want completive lobbies to be fun for the 90% of players who are not mechanically gifted enough at the game to stand with the 10%, then skill based matchmaking is an absolute must. There is nothing more frustrating, in my opinion, than going up against a team of people who are just so far removed from your skill group that it is practically impossible to win. I know I am not the only player to express this opinion to you all. I feel as though I am in a vocal majority even. When you have top content creators calling the mode "misery" (SirD, in a trials video from this season), I think it is plain to see that there are massive issues with the system.
This is then compounded by many meta weapons being locked behind INSANELY LOW drop chances, so even when we weaker players try to fight through the gauntlet of hackers and carriers that is trials, we are not only usually outclassed by skill, but arsenal as well. Trials has created a negative feedback loop where you and your team have to be insanely gifted/talented at the game to stand a chance, you pay someone hundreds of dollars to "carry" you, or you straight up cheat. That is not what competitive gaming should look like. that is a slap in the face to completive gaming. There is no honor, no glory, no value in beating up players who are not as good as you in a competitive mode. And even when we do manage to pull out a single match win, it's a hollow victory, because we know the death march we just endured is nothing compared to the next game.
Bungie, I implore you to bring drastic changes to some of the systems in your game. There is so much potential in destiny, and especially in the competitive modes. The skill expression can be so fantastic to watch at the highest levels. but watching one team slaughter another is not fun. For anyone. Being the team that gets slaughtered is not fun. Just look at this year's super bowl.
I'm not slaying going flawless should be easy, but it should at least be fair. It just isn't right now. It's frustrating to the point of tears for me sometimes. And as far as loot goes, just bump up the numbers, or at least consider a sort of bad luck forgiveness mechanic like the ones implemented on raid exotics. (Which I also have not gotten to drop yet... been doing 3 raids almost every week man... that's for another post though)
I hope this rant finds its way to someone who can look past the frustration to see a player who loves this game, and just wants to see some changes implemented for the better. I just want pvp to feel fair.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post.

They did say they are looking into drop rates . I would say wait till something is done

I mean, TP and Steady hand compete with it, unless you were talking about energy 120s.

You are not wrong. However, they are doing it on purpose and dont care. They put the best gun behind trials. They know the lower 97% cant get it. They know this creates recovs and cheating. -again, they don’t care Gambit is a failed and dying mode that very few would touch, if they didnt feel forced in there for gear. They need to pump up the numbers for matchmaking for the limited few who enjoy it. They purposely put the only competition to the hammer in gambit, to push the player population. This is all planned. They know how players will act based on history. They will eventually change the drop rate and pretend they are being generous and hearing you, even though it was pre-planned as well. Harsh truth. Get a steady hand this week and be happy with it. It has much more aim assist and is likely the better gun in most peoples hands.

Do not worry while yes your efforts for getting these weapons were in vain the community manger has noticed that these new weapons liek bottom dollar and palindrome do not drop and enough and he has alerted the bungie team. I do agree with most of the points you made and while I've got the god roll bottom dollar I've watched clan mates do entire infamy resets and not get one. The last time a checked up one of the best pvp players in our clan he hadn't gotten a single one in 90 games

In regards to Igneous Hammer, I’m sure the non adept version will be available from 3 or 5 wins soon, so it’ll be obtainable for most players. I agree, they need to bump up the drop rate for bottom dollar. In my opinion this weapon should have been added to the crucible playlist not gambit!

TL:DR Just play something else. Plenty other games out there.
