For all the people who claim that this is “TTK 2.0” not everything was sunset on TTK’s release:
Some exotics from Destiny's Year One will be upgraded when The Taken King launches, and players will be able to access the new versions if they have the old version in their blueprint collection. These upgraded versions will also cost Legendary Marks — more on that later. Light Beyond Nemesis, an Exotic Warlock helmet, was showcased during the stream; its upgraded version starts at max defense, grants earlier access to its best perks and adds totally new perks on top of them. Only "some" exotic gear will be brought forward into Year Two.
The Suros Regime, an exotic auto rifle, will be upgraded in Year Two with a new look and new perks.
Exotics aren't the only thing you can upgrade in Year Two. All new exotic and legendary weapons and armor can be "Infused," allowing players to break down gear to improve other pieces of gear, provided the destroyed gear is "of the same Year and gear slot, a similar quality and a higher level than the current gear." This process will also consume a few different materials, like weapon parts and Legendary Marks.
[edit:] Because not every Dreg on the forum is literate, we can also take a trip down memory lane: https://youtu.be/D2BHmBouNEY
[edit:] You can speed up to 42 and 52 minutes on the vid to get to the details.
Here’s the irony - legendary armor and weapons were revamped on TTK launch to specifically allow infusion going forward [edit:] with a perk overhaul. The point was to induce and reward extended engagement with the game.
Combined with the improved story elements, it worked:

There’s a lot of revisionist b.s. floating around here about how sunsetting will bring another TTK when TTK gave us infusion in the first place. It is also a fact that Bungie has admitted that it was a huge mistake splitting the playerbase by launching D2.
Facts, history, and experience matter. The rest can walk.

You also left out how we got a lot more gear in TTK than we will get in Beyond light.
-
Time will tell - but I suspect you will be correct
-
Ah...I miss Light Beyond Nemesis. Looked really good on my FWC Warlock back in D1.
-
I miss Tlaloc
-
Same. I might be part of the minority here, but I also miss Super Good Advice. And the three exotic swords you get from Shaxx. (Bolt Caster, Dark Drinker...Kinda forgot what the Solar Sword was called)
-
I miss Fabian Strategy. The Titan exclusive Auto Rifle.
-
Raze lighter was the Solar sword

Thank you, both of you lmao.

Good job to bringing many points from the past up, but Infusion is from House of Wolves.
-
HoW had a similar system which paved the way for infusion.
-
I’d say Etheric Light sowed the seed for the infusion system, but it wasn’t technically infusion.

Thanks, actually it was TTK:
This page contains information on how to infuse better weapons in Destiny. Infusion is a method of gear ascention added in The Taken King. This allows a Guardian to make their weaker gear better by cannibalizing better gear into the weaker gear.
IGN - https://www.ign.com/wikis/destiny/Infusion
