Idea to make Trials of Osiris more approachable for casual players

Let me first start off saying that this is coming from someone with a lot of time in trials, I believe I have like 15 flawless runs or so and good stats.But I find it extremely frustrating to go up against a team of people that have 1000 flawless runs between the three of them, each with 3000 elo, meanwhile I’m just having fun and trying to help a clan mate get flawless for the first time. I have two ideas that could help eliminate this scenario and make it more appealing to the more casual player. the first one is quick and simple... skill based matchmaking. Your team goes up against people of equal skill/elo. The second idea is the one I’ve had since D1, there is a flawless number bracket. People with 0 flawless go up against each-other always, 1-10 flawless goes up against each-other etc. when you get triple digit flawless then you’ll only go up against that kind of competition. People that have high number of flawless will have more bragging rights because they are going up against the best of the best while the low tier have a better shot at the end goal. Now it’s not perfect by any means but considering the population size of trials right now, one of these options could revitalize the community. I’m curious what other people think of this idea. Is it a good idea? Bad idea? What are your ideas?

Is it a good idea? Bad idea? What are your ideas?[/quote] Both bad ideas. 1. Sbmm is always a bad idea and takes away from the spirit of trials. Its always been card based matchmaking and should always be. 2. The game is dead as it is, further segregation of the player pool will only make that worse as queue times start entering the 20mins+ territory. Additionally, what incentive would you offer the better players for going flawless against better players? Because bragging rights just ain't gonna cut it in a loot based game. And the moment you add a special title/emblem/shader/glow/weapon whatever for those that get the super super flawless victory, the people who are stuck on their 1 flawless (who only achieved that because all the good players were removed from the matchmaking pool) are gonna whine that its not fair that they can't get that piece of loot. How can I say that's gonna happen.. because its already what happens. All the players who can't get flawless and think its unfair they can't get to the lighthouse even though they're "day 1 d1 vets" (like that makes a difference) are already complaining that there needs to be a special bit of loot to be an incentive for the good players to stay out the matchmaking pool. End of the day, trials isn't for casuals. Really is as simple as that. The original concept was that you wouldnt even be able to buy a passage, instead it was a random drop in crucible if the game deemed you worthy/good enough. I believe this was only scrapped as they couldn't figure out a consistent and reasonable method of measuring this, and I believe they were worried about the backlash of basically telling a large portion of their playerbase that they weren't good enough. Trials is fine the way it is, the only problem with trials is the same problem that infests the rest of the game... self entitled shit kids who think everything should be handed to them because they paid for a game (yes I know destiny is f2p now but you get what I mean). Not calling you one of those, just speaking generally.

      The Survival playlist was the "fix' for Trials. Trials by its nature is a predatory game mode, not a competitive one. It doesn't work any other way. If you were actually, properly skill matched, you'd only have odds of about 128 to 1 of going flawless. So the whole enterprise is about allowing the best teams and players to exploit weaker players and weaker teams....while avoiding playing each other for as long as possible.

    • I don't believe the design of trials is meant for casuals. It's meant to be for more of the hardcore PvP player, need light level and skills. I have 4000+ games of PvP, soloed to legend for my not forgotten. The best I've ever done is 4 wins on one card 3 times. I don't really try that hard and usually just play with randoms from lfg, but I don't mind if I never go flawless or even get 5 or 7 wins.
