My 2 motes on the impending Gambit playlist changes and sandbox evolution

Architects, Luke Smith, fellow light bearers; let’s sit around the sentry bonfire a minute. I want to discuss some of the changes that were foretold, some that we needed to experience, and changes yet to come in our shared world. As a disclaimer, I’m usually a member of this community that doesn’t gripe too much about the low level annoyances. Example? Forges. I LIKED taking the scenic tour to visit the forge of my choice. I enjoyed the extra opportunity to patrol or collect resources on my way to said forge. The Black Armory is one of my favorite experiences and I feel like the changes made have affected my general enjoyment of forges. Not to mention, being forced to play whatever the forge is for that day and not quite being prepared w/ the corresponding weapon if the forge specific triumphs are what you’re pursuing. I get things can’t stay the same forever and I understand all games are switching to the FOMO (fear of missing out) model to drive player engagement. Needless to say, I’m glad I was around when Black Armory was fresh. Every week it seems there’s another community gripe and I’m not w/ it for the most part. When it’s a glaring balance issue I completely understand (like the Prometheus lense I abused and still haven’t received my emblem for, but that’s beside the point). I appreciate you autocomplete quests that are broken like this past seasonal Iron Banner. (Which you made too easy, IMHO, but again, I understand the communities’ overall casual-ness) My clan LightsTemplar (formerly Into The Darkness) has been around since we first ventured into the Hellmouth. Our numbers have vacillated over the years but the core group remains. I’ve spent most time in the past year playing Gambit w/ my rowdy bunch of guardians. I’m usual their source for Bungie/Destiny news and delivering the news that gambit is getting the highlander redux didn’t land well w/ them. This is my gripe and what I really came here to discuss... 1. Our clan consists of a mixture of sweaty competitive and casual players. We pick and choose our gambit battles depending on who in the clan is available at the moment. Sometimes we feel like putting on all our prime gear and putting ourselves and our opponents to the test. Other times, we want the pace of a 2-3 round game w/ a breather in between. 2. (Hypothetically) if prime goes away, the reckoning armor earned is rendered useless (unless updated for gambit classic) The long and short of it is a chunk of my clan’s activity is a mixture of the Gambits and no one in LightsTemplar is looking forward to giving up either. What is provided now is the equivalent to Valor/Glory or Quickplay/Competitive. Allow me to bank my 2 motes, now. I was around to experience (but never reach the end of) Trials of Osiris. There was a drive to sharpen your skills during the week for the ToO on the weekend. Maybe, the future of gambit can be inspired by this. I can imagine a gambit classic that entices new light and veteran players w/ a predictable PvEvP experience. Seasonally, Gambit Prime could be Friday-Sunday only and encourage competition w/ seasonal exclusive loot that is awarded when you make it to the higher tiers of a prime leader board, maybe even March Madness bracket-style for clan based bragging rights. And in preparation for Prime weekends, the player traffic might be more inclined to play reckoning during the week for the gear that will make them more competitive come the weekends. Maybe, Prime weekends can have a static map like when it was first introduced. Idk, I just feel like there is plenty more to be done w/ the 2 game modes. Obviously there is data about these game modes I can’t see and at the end of the day, the Architects know best. But, no matter what happens I have faith Bungie will do what’s best for the Destiny 2 experience. I don’t look forward to a reduction of gambit modes partly because I want new light players to have a taste of what was. But, truthfully, they already missed out on the golden season that was season of the Drifter. Otherwise, I’m thoroughly enjoying my return to the Moon and LOVE armor 2.0 (ESPECIALLY the mod affinity system). Keep up the great work, ladies and gents. See you starside 🤘🏽
