The Raven- Can We Survive the End?

In the deep soul of the abyss, a being whispered quietly. These whispers grew and grew out of the soul until it echoed into the outside world. Trees gently swayed with the whispers and threw their leaves into the soft currents of the gale. As the whispers continued, the gale was empowered, sending leaves flying throughout the many lands until one leaf, a tiny palmate, fluttered its way to the end of the world. There stood a black creature, darker than even the night sky which on this night, was starless and black as the abyss itself. The leaf gently floated down to the winged creature which stood, clawed toes wrapped around a tree branch. The creature, black, soulless eyes taking in the essence of the leaf, opened its dark beak and felt the little palmate fall into its open maw where it whipped its black tongue around the leaf and pulled it back. The leaf was gone in an instant, devoured by the raven. The Raven eyed the edge of existence with great courage. The feathered creature had no fear of the End, merely a vague interest in the existential reality of its own life. The dark waves called to it. The rhythmic movements of the ocean hypnotizing the black orbs which protected the very soul of the Raven. The waves grew as the gale started to gather at the End. The blackness of the beating waters deepened and strengthened the very ocean itself. It grew in power as the essence of the abyss made its way to the edge of existence. The Raven saw this yet still felt no fear. The creature had foreseen this many eons before. The night sky darkened as it became a shadow of the abyss. A mirage of the blackness to come. The Raven witnessed the ground rumble and the grass start to melt away. The tree on which it stood, shook violently with the impending desolation to come. It observed the black water ripple and stir, waves becoming larger and darker. The lands of this world were starting to tear apart. Hillsides and mountains crumbled beneath the growing winds, towns and villages fell through the earth itself and joined with the spreading abyss. The creature narrowed its black eyes at the misfortune of reality as death, suffering, conflict, and domination ripped across the land like a blazing inferno in a dry valley of grass and trees. The Raven opened itself up, letting its wings face the dark gales that were led by the whispers of the abyss. As the creature’s stunningly black wings opened up to the dying world, the winds increased tenfold. The gales ripped the land into pieces and tore down even the mightiest of nature’s creations. The sands of the faraway desert were thrown throughout the land and even found their way to the End. Then the Raven opened its beak and released a mighty caw that decimated every last piece of land left in the falling world. The abyss exploded out of the below and flooded the many lands with pure blackness. As the Raven finished its crow, the lands were gone. It stood on an ashen tree which was the final piece of nature in the entire world. Everything had become black as the winds, waters, and abyss all joined together. This was the way of the Raven. To leave behind only one small tree in every place it went. It had been this way for eternity. And no world had ever been able to stand against it. The greatest armies and the most powerful beings were made into nothing by the devastating omnipotence of the Raven and its blackness. It had been to the End infinite times. And it would return infinite more times. As worlds grew and festered, the Raven would find its way. Blackness overtook everything, and the Raven whispered, “Forevermore.”
This is pretty different than what I normally write as it is more of an idea for the future of my short stories than a short story in itself. It obviously took a decent amount of inspiration from The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe which is my all time favorite poem. I’m not sure if I’ll lead into this or not though. I may not even write more short stories. Its not like I’m the most popular writer here or anything. Who knows what the future holds?✌️
