**DISCLAIMER**
This thread discusses Raw Gear Power. Power levels granted by your artifact do not count here. If you are 940 gear power but your artifact is putting you at 953, for the sake of this discussion, you are 940. Once your raw Gear power hits 950, then you will be in Pinnacle game-play and you will hit the same brick wall as everyone else there. Please don't come in with "But i'm 953 and my powerfuls are still +3 increases." No. you're 940. You haven't hit Pinnacle yet.
This thread is not complaining about getting to 960 being too much of a grind. It is pointing out that it may likely be impossible without literal perfect RNG regardless of whether you play 100 hours a week or 2 hours a week. Because hitting 960 isn't about play time. It's about being very lucky with your very finite number of pinnacle drops. A single duplicate drop could mean you can't make it. We want less RNG in progression, not more.
Before we get in, I wish to refresh everyone on Bungie's philosophy about how long it should take to hit max power. This is a direct quote from Luke Smith's Director's Cut Part 2:
"In the simplest terms: Short-term goals can be completed in a night or a week, medium-term goals can take several weeks, and long-term goals can take anywhere from a Season to several Seasons. For some folks (like me), getting good at a part of the game may take a lifetime (that’s a personal-mastery goal).
We think reaching max Power can be a medium-term goal for Power-progression-focused players."

With all Pinnacle drops only being +1 above your current power, it’s likely that even the most dedicated players will not hit 960 by the end of the season at a rate of only 5 chances of pinnacle gear per week. This issues is GREATLY compounded when you realize that the only pinnacle Heavy Weapon source is the 100k nightfall which is in no way weighted towards your heavy (for those who haven’t noticed there are 0 raid Heavy weapons).
A player must get at minimum 8 pinnacle drops before they reach 951 power and can start receiving 952 drops. This is assuming there are no duplicates (and there will be many... 3/4 of my IB bounties were chests...)
This is worse than Forever 29 because we’re not only hoping for 1 slot for multiple weeks. We have to do this 10 (TEN) times to hit 960.
This is ridiculous.
This system combined with the fact that all powerful drops and primes are useless makes the post 950 experience just a drag. This is coming from a hardcore player who completed the raid first week.
There needs to either be more pinnacle sources, a chance for pinnacles to drop at +2, or a guaranteed +2 pinnacle source like the final raid chest. Some smarter loot would also be appreciated. I currently have 3 951 chests, 3 951 energy weapons and 2 951 cloaks...
And before anyone comments “Ohh but I’m already 961. What’s the issue?”
I’m talking about raw gear power. This doesn’t include Artifact power.
**EDIT**
It appears some people have a misunderstanding of what the pinnacle experience is like. Some are convinced that 960 is a feat reserved for the players who put in the most hours during the season. This was my belief too until I hit pinnacle and realized it’s nothing like this at all. I have no reason to play after I’ve beat the raid each week and done my 100k because nothing else gives me pinnacle gear. There is only 2 hours worth of useful content at pinnacle level. With 7 weeks like that means there is, at max (assuming the dungeon will take 1 hour) 21 hours of useful pinnacle content left. Meaning the player who plays 1000 hours will have no more advantage than the player who only plays 21. That’s how a system of finite pinnacle drops works. The time you invest past your last pinnacle source is a complete waste. The highest gear power players won’t be the ones who put in the most time; it will be the ones who get luckiest and avoid duplicates in their very limited pinnacle source pool.
This reddit thread put it way better than I have the time/bother to do: https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/dfvsy8/pinnacle_leveling_950960_is_broken_heres_why/
**MATH**
So I’ve done a bit of rudimentary math on the subject of leveling. Given that each piece only grants +1 power, we have to acquire an entire 8 piece set before we can start working towards the next power. The following calculation depicts the average number of drops a player will need to get a full set of 951 gear:
∑(1/(x/8)) as x=1->8 = (1/(8/8)) + (1/(7/8)) + (1/(6/8)) + (1/(5/8)) + (1/(4/8)) + (1/(3/8)) + (1/(2/8)) + (1/(1/8)) = ~21.7
This calculates the average number of pinnacle drops you’ll need to fill out all 8 slots at about 21.7, so basically 22 pinnacle drops before you’ll finally get that last piece to increase in power. Now apply this to the 10 power levels between 950 and 960 and we see that we need an average of 220 pinnacle drops across the season to reach 960. Thats 32 pinnacle sources per week... Anyone want to keep saying “we haven’t seen all the sources yet!” to that number..?
In case you wanted an explanation on why I use that calculation, it’s because (x/8) represents the odds of getting something that isn’t a duplicate where x is the number of slots you still need and 8 is the total number of slots. Take 1 over that number and you get the number of drops you’ll need on average to overcome those odds and receive the piece you need. And then we add all of these together for all 8 slots, and because the number of slots you still need decreases as you acquire gear, then the odds of getting a duplicate increase with it, thus you need more and more drops to hit the slot you need.
***OUR DEMANDS***
Make the pinnacle grind to 960 possible and not just with godly RNG.
Balance out the slot weighting on Pinnacle Sources. Way too much weight towards energy weapons.
In future Iron Banners, have a small salad on Saladin's table.
Bring back First Curse.
-
Agreed. My solution - make all powerful engrams able to drop +1 beyond your current base power up to the max of 960. Pinnacle drops could be +3 max to help you level quicker. This would make it "possible" to hit 960 in one season. As it is now, I'm done as soon as I get a pair of 950 gauntlets for my Titan. I'm going to move on to another game.
-
This post should be higher. I recommend a silver boycott until they address it. They will not care about or listen to anything else except money.
-
Well there is one thing that will help that you probably didn’t consider. Once you get all the pinnacle drops on one character you can give the weapons to your other characters which will increase their base power level. Then you third character jumps up faster. So go back and forth between all three characters to power level faster.
-
IF AND I STRESS IF Bungie announces that they will never again be increasing the light level cap with updates as there is no upper limit after 950 then the pinnacle system being the way it is makes sense and actually is quite good... But doubt thats the plan.
-
Each season this year the artifact will reset and the base power will remain. Since people can order seasons a la cart, and skip seasons if they want, this allows people who did skip to not get left too far behind. So the 950 to 960 climb is designed for the year not the season. I'm not saying this is good, or that I agree with this philosophy, but that's what they were thinking. Plus I think they wanted to give players something to move slowly towards that they can't just blitz in a week or two. Also, the dungeon may drop pinnacles, along with other content coming up. So the math is most likely missing a few inputs. I think it's frustrating too, and they'll probably adjust it at some point, but I'm fairly sure it was intended as a yearly grind, not seasonal. Or they just -blam!-ed it up somehow, lol.
-
Everybody complaining about not having enough pinnacle drops, relax, we got an extra 24 chances this week for pinnacles, and with the release of master hunts next week and festival of the lost probably gonna get a lot more.
-
Why hasn't bungie commented on any of these posts involving pinnacle grind? Is it because it is working as intended? Is it because they will sell you 960 in eververse at the end of the season? Is it because they are so grindy they are planning to fix it? Bungie we need answers.
-
You get a C on your essay

I keep saying this and I'm going to continue to do so.. I think this grind to 960 is meant to take place over the course of multiple seasons... The next power level raise which would be to 1000 won't be until season 3 of this 3rd year were in .. It makes no sense for them to make pinnacle rewards +1 from 950-960 this season to just raise the power again for season 2 .. And if they do plan on raising the power level next season like they have been doing.. Than this by far is one of the dumbest things that have implemented with +1 drops for pinnacle/end game drops
-
I just hate the fact that I’ve had all of my gear as of a week and a half ago were 950 EXCEPT my arm piece. as a result of that arm piece being 949 despite completing every single powerful gear source this week, any pinnacle drops I get continue to drop at 950 instead of 951.
-
Got ten 951 secondaries. Definitely the great new vision of destiny.
-
I kind of hate the word "pinnacle" now.
-
Makes no difference . I gave up playing nightfalls with any 960 player. They die 5 times and have no idea what to do with overload champs . I solo 100k. No problem at all . Do this 960 grind is an absolute waste of time
-
What do you mean "our demands". I'm 951 without artifact and don't care.
-
Congratulations. You took the bait for the pursuit of nonsense and will chase your tail for a couple of months for essentially nothing. Then the season's will change and you'll start over and do it again.
-
I stop reading after 2 sentences. Yawn! It just a game just play it and you get to 960 or whatever at the end of the season.

Изменено (Necrogen): 10/20/2019 3:54:49 PMA good way to level up with little effort is to first do most of the grinding with your first character. I got my first character to about 930. I switch to my second character and give it my three highest weapons. I then cash in tokens to get armor / (or you can alternatively just go into collections and hit soft cap first). Regardless whichever stuff you choose you do the other after. I chose to go and cash in at shaax and top off as close as possible. I got to about 910 and then did iron banner and got to 940. Then you do the same exact thing for your third character. it definitely breaks up the monotony for the first character because it is the hardest to do. As you say you can go up one or two extra points after 950. I say if you think that you're plateauing to make sure you go into your second and then third character and see what kind of drops you can get. who knows? Would the old D1 theory work this time having three of the same characters and getting the same loot? leveling has never gotten any easier up until now. It honestly doesn't bother me if I'm not 960. I would rather have an activity that is higher level than me and gives me a challenge and makes me think all my approach then going in and face rolling the content. Good bad or indifferent, it's a step in the right direction.
-
To be honest, I will be fine just getting to 950. I don't really care about the Pinnacle level, but I think (in my opinion) that grind at least gives the hardcore player an incentive to play those high level activities more often. Bungie's goal is clear, the purpose of the "Pinnacle Level" grind is for the long term and keeps the expansion relevant long enough before the next one drops. How many times have we heard the complaint, "I stopped playing Destiny because there's nothing to do" ? Well now you have something to do. And besides, you have at least 50 days before the season ends and that's about ten weeks. So I suppose, it does align with what Bungie has stated about "medium-term" goals. Just an observation.
-
Totally agree. 11 pinnacles this week including IB and 7 of them totally useless reg. power level because I got 5 kinetics and 4 energies.... great loot system. not.
-
My main issue with all of this is that it creates an insane variance in time/grind from player to player. If you have bad rng getting to 960 might take 5 times longer than for a player with good rng. Power level has always functioned as sort of a content gate in Destiny, that can be compensated by player skill up to a certain level, but fact is: people with the same skill-level, and same amount of time played might have a very different experience in the 980 nightfalls, because those 4-5 power levels actually matter there. I really don't understand why they didn't just add some menagerie style bad luck protection for those pieces that just won't drop.
-
Thanks for the probability calc. But I've come to believe over the years that whoever is in charge of Destiny's rewards doesn't understand probabilities and distributions. They need to implement a smarter loot system.
-
Изменено (Smoothrivers): 10/19/2019 5:16:04 PMBungie has killed this game for the more casual player, whom I'd wager is well over 85% of their paying customer base. That and the fact that their only answer to anything is to nerf the s**t out of it and recycle it from D1.
-
In trying to give the hardcore something to strive for, they've kind of killed any incentive to actually play the game, for the hardcore. This system is beyond flawed. And, with the artifact, unless you're actually inspecting people, you'll never see who is actually max, and who just grinds out XP.
-
It's a total f-ucking insult to the players. It's honestly evil behavior to set this up like this again. It's like D1 vanilla grind to level 30 all over again.
-
You’ve made a wall of text over something that’s not gonna matter on the 10th of December or is it the 14th. The pinnacle climb is just another version of that pointless 405 you could get to during yr 1 solstice absolutely redundant the moment next dlc dropped
-
It was fine how it was before. Just powerful rewards and prime engrams. Simple content. I mean I guess maybe the streamers love it but I cant imagine the actual players care much about it.
