The Forum Update

Edit: the forum update will now take place on January 29th
Sorry, I realize this post is rather large (and I kind of posted it at the last second. It’s actually already the 22nd where I live). I hope this post is helpful
Hello, everyone. I’m sure you’ve already heard about the changes coming to the forums on Tuesday, January 22nd. But in case you don’t know exactly what’s happening, I have some information on it and an explanation in this post. I also have a few personal messages I’d like to tell all of you concerning this situation and myself. These forums will remain after the update:
-Destiny 2 -Feedback -Gameplay -Rewards -Lore -Destiny 1 -Clan Recruitment -Companion -iOS -Android -Web -Help -All current Player Support subforums -OffTopic
So what’s the change? The following forums and subforums will be removed (all posts and hashtags will remain, but the forums themselves will no longer be available for browsing and posting):
-The Destiny 2 Classes, Crucible, and Endgame subforums -All Feedback subforums -Community and Gallery -All Clan Recruitment subforums -Gaming
So how will this affect the forums? Members of the disappearing forums will move into the remaining forums. In reality, this change won’t have too much affect on anyone. The forums being removed are the slower-paced ones, meaning there likely won’t be floods of new posts choking the forums. There may be some initial chaos, for several reasons. Some people will be hopping through forums to find their place, others will be raging about the change, some will become inactive, and some individuals will try to cause trouble for everyone as they “go out in a blaze of glory.” Everything should overall calm down relatively quickly, though, if we all keep our heads. It really isn’t a big deal. For those of you wondering where to go, the lower number of forums should make the choice easy (just ignore the toxic people). -Members of #Gaming will have an easy change moving to #OffTopic. -Members of other forums, especially #Community, will be divided depending on what they’re posting (just read the forum names and you’ll know where to go. It’s very simple and self explanatory). -The only people who may have trouble during the move are people who make creations (like videos, images, and stories). These people were mainly in #Gallery. The Destiny 1 and Destiny 2 forums will be the best places for videos and images, along with #Gameplay and possibly other forums depending on the theme. Fanfic writers are the main problem, due to the question of where they belong and the fact that some people don’t like fanfics and/or don’t want to see them in their forums.
Before I say anything else on the matter of fanfics and where they belong, here is the most important thing: We all want fanfictions to have their own forum, but we don’t have that right now. So we have to suck it up and do what we can to coexist and stop the forums from drowning in toxicity. Be friendly and considerate.
So where will fanfics go? When #Gallery is removed, #Lore will be the new biggest hotspot for fanfics. There are already writers there and more will come after the update. Why should you go there? Bungie has accepted/approved the presence of fanfictions in #Lore. For examples, check the following links: Bungie’s statements concerning fanfics after the forum change Bungie’s statements on not removing fanfics from Lore Why #Lore? Why not another forum? There are many opinions about where fanfic belongs and why. But it’s going to be in Lore, so let’s not waste time questioning it. If you want my thoughts on why fanfic goes in Lore, you can ask me, but we all have our own opinions. So how can writers exist peacefully in #Lore? This takes effort from everyone. Don’t start arguments or trash talk each other. If you see someone being a pill, leave them be. You’ll only encourage them by responding/arguing. If you don’t want to see fanfics, you can block hashtags or people (though you may miss out on other posts, including lore posts, by doing this). Anyone who posts a fanfic should put (Fanfic) or something similar in the title, as a warning to others. Also put the #fanfiction hashtag on your posts. For more tips on coexisting, check out this post by Biocatarus-3. I myself previously spent all my time in #Community/#Gallery and will now be moving to #Lore. I do make lore posts occasionally, as well as post fanfiction regularly. I look forward to joining you all and sharing our love for Destiny. Some of you may recognize me as the guy who was trying to get fanfic writers out of #Lore and into #Gallery. Now #Gallery will be gone and I’m going to #Lore. Ironic, right? I sure had a good laugh when Bungie announced the forum change. Let’s work together for the well-being of the forums and all Destiny fans. And maybe we can beg Bungie to make a new forum for fanfiction, which will benefit all of us ;) Best wishes, KSeth27
