What Are The Nine?

<inb4 folklore (EDIT: called it) Anyway, long ago I made a couple post on two of the most mysterious things in Destiny, the Traveler and the Darkness. Today, I'm going to go over the third... the Nine. What the -blam!- are they? What do they want? Why? Here's what we KNOW. The Nine are elusive beings that have an unknown number of Agents and possibly Emissaries. They hide in the shadows and rarely make their presence known. They seem to be welcomed, as both the Reef and the Vanguard allow Xur to sell shit to Guardians. However, nobody in the universe really knows that much about them, either. Ironically, the Nine don't want anything on their turf unless they allow it. Uldren's Crows went to Rhea, a Jovian moon, and the Nine didn't like that at all. They were never asked of Skolas, they just received him as a peace offering from the Queen. Because they didn't want Skolas, they sent him back (cue HoW). They watch over what we do... carefully and mostly silently. We don't know the extent of their power, but perhaps these theories can provide insight. Prepare yourselves for a long post as a confused Vex Mind tries to understand beings higher than himself. Ghost Fragment: Legends 2 Theories -
The Nine are survivors of the cis-Jovian colonies who made a compact with an alien force to ensure their own survival.
"The Jovians"... Xur's kind. But what alien force? The Ahamkara? The 5th Race? The Darkness? Considering that Light hurts Xur (according to him) and he doesn't really look that far off from what a "being of Darkness" might look like, I think I'll go with Darkness. Though Ahamkara is a likely possibility. If this is true, then clearly the Nine are more powerful Jovians because Xur confirms that there are more than 9.
The Nine are deep-orbit warminds who weathered the Collapse in hardened stealth platforms.
I like this one in particular because there's something that can definitely back this up. Check "A Sudden Death", it's one of the Trials weapons.
You spoke with the deep-orbit minds. we heard what you asked BUT THEY HAD QUESTIONS TOO The lying robot no longer lies with others. Where is he?
That isn't cryptic AT ALL... I believe this refers to Rasputin. As we know, Rasputin hid himself during the Collapse while every other Warmind fought the Darkness. Does this mean that the other Warminds are alive? Do they not have contact with Rasputin despite recent events? Were they changed? What happened during the Collapse?
The Nine are ancient leviathan intelligences from the seas of Europa or the hydrocarbon pits of Titan.
I don't really like this one. It also seems off considering what we saw on Titan.
The Nine arrived in a mysterious transmission from the direction of the Corona-Borealis supercluster.
Yes. The Emissary practically confirms this. She says to listen in the direction of supercluster when you go Flawless. Something's out there in the galaxy... or out of the galaxy... hey what's that large invading alien force again?
The Nine are the firstborn Awoken and their minds now race down the field lines of the Jupiter-Io flux tube.
While I would like to believe the first part, we haven't seen anything on Io.
The Nine are Ghosts who pierced the Deep Black without a ship and meditated on the hissing silence of the heliopause.

[Eight sparks. A ninth, dim in the corner. And Orin in the middle.] ORIN: Are we all here? Come into the light, please. G-9: I like where I am. ORIN: They said you all went to the deep without a ship. How? G-7: Our charges are gone, but we're still creatures of Light. No different from the one you carry in your pocket. ORIN: You're all either very brave or very foolish. G-6: You sound like Shaxx. G-5: She does. I'm glad my charge is gone. G-4: Don't say that. G-5: It's true. G-4: Don't say it out loud. Some of us go our whole lives without finding one. Show some respect. G-5: Don't talk like you're better than me. You're in here, too. ORIN: Please. I'm sorry to call you all here, but— G-2: You're not sorry. ORIN: I need to know what you found out there. G-9: Nothing. ORIN: At least give me the coordinates.
I don't have to say a damn thing, they confirm each other.
The Nine is a viral language of pure meaning.

“To do what you say, is to speak in a language of pure meaning.”
-Xur Xur in Destiny 2 says a lot of cryptic shit, but that's for another post.
The Nine are the aspects of the Darkness, broken by the Traveler's rebuke, working to destroy us from within.
Well... isn't this interesting. Doesn't help when Xur says the Nine will come to us or that the Queen thought that the Nine were scheming against her. Or that the Nine think the removal of Light from a Guardian (Orin) is a gift.
The Nine are the shadows left by the annihilation of a transcendent shape, burned into the weft of what is.
I... I don't know. I really don't. They seem to be powerful and well hidden, not to mention we get to Eternity through a Wormhole, but what? I think those last three are the only ones describing the Nine themselves. I think those Ghosts aren't really the Nine. Those Warminds aren't the Nine. The Jovians aren't the Nine. They are all agents or followers. Why are they giving us shit? Are they just setting us up? Are they giving us a fighting chance? There's a lot of people working against us. When the Darkness arrives, will the Nine open the gates? What do you think?>
