List of issues with Destiny the Second (warning : long read)

As someone who's spent 1000-ish hours playing Destiny 1 , I really wanted this game to be perfect , I wanted everyone D1 to go "wow , this is actually great , maybe even game of the year!" , I wanted the esport community to turn their attention to Destiny . I really wanted to have an awesome game . But sadly there are many things wrong with Destiny 2 . I'll try to make a somewhat exhaustive list , hopefully that'll get to Bungie's ear . -Story missions aren't replayable (or only through Ikora's 3 weekly missions) . Why ? They've said that those missions and adventures were clearly the strength of Destiny , but now you can only do them once and then that's it ? Knowing that 90% of the activties are one-time only , this clearly shortens the longevity of the game . -You can't launch a single strike . The only way you can actually play a strike is either 1) through the level 140 playlist or 2) a nightfall . If you just want to play this one strike you like for killing time , you've gotta launch the playlist and hope you get the right one . Why can't we have both ? Destiny 1 did that , and it was great . -Missions are too easy and no longer have difficulty settings . Some people just like having a challenging experience ! Now it's ok to make a game accessible to casuals , but at least give us the option to play with a hard difficulty . Every game has that . Destiny 1 had that , and it was great . -There are not that many strikes . It's really not that much . It's less than in D1 , and D1 was criticized for not having enough content . Not only that but ... -One of those is playstation exclusive and we really don't need to cut out content in a game franchise whch has been criticized numerous times for not having enough content . -There is no heroic strike playlist and that's actually a problem , because right now the only options are the level 140 strikes (when everyone is almost at 300) or the nightfall , and there's nothing to bridge that gap , no activity with modifiers to make the activities varied or anything . Destiny 1 had that , and it was great . -Also no missions with modifiers you know , heroic missions .Although we do have Ikora's meditations , but only three a week and without modifiers . Still , it was a fun little way to keep yourself entertained . Destiny 1 had that , and it was great . -The ShaDisaster the whole system about being able to put shaders on weapons , ships , sparrows etc. is great , but why oh why did shaders have to be CONSUMED after you unequip them ? You want to make it so that you need say 5 of the same shader to apply it to 5 different items ? fine . But when I change my exotic and need to adjust my color palette , I don't want to lose the shaders I applied . Like seriously , what would it be when you get super rare shaders from trials or the raid or limited time events ? you put them on and can never change otherwise you'll probably never get them again ? Just make it so that unequipping shaders puts them back in your inventory , and it would be perfect , except for the fact that ... -Shaders don't mean anything and it's made even worse by Luke Smith's "we really want shaders to matter and people to grind for them" well then , why didn't you make them ALL actually obtainable through activities instead of locking HALF OF ALL SHADERS behind bright engrams ? You could've made it so that , for example , you get golden trace for every 5 golden medals you get in pvp , or so the Midnight Talons drop from nightfalls , that way when looking at a guardian's appearance , you'd be able to say "whoa ! That guy is a god at nightfalls ! and apparently pvp too !" , that way they would actually be meaningful . Instead now you just think "welp , he got that from a bright engram" . Destiny 1 didn't really have that at first , then people complained about it , and it became more like that with TTK and RoI , and it was great ! -And that also applies to all sparrows , all ships , all ornaments and all ghost . Like seriously , bright engrams are the only way you can get any of those (except the 3-6 plain green ones) . Would it have been so hard to make it so that players unlock the Hastilude jousting sparrow after killing 100 enemies with their sparrow ? Would it have been so hard to just hide ghost shells around patrol maps so that people could have fun hunting for them and unlocking new ghost shells ? would it have been so hard to tie each ornament with a special achievement for each gun ? Like "get 1000 explosion kills with sunshot" , "kill 1000 phalanxes with skyburner's oath" ? I just thought about these on the spot , and it REALLY would not have been hard to implement them into the game , resulting in literally HUNDREDS of hours worth of content (we're taking abut 17 ornaments , 30 ships , 27 sparrows , and 25 ghost shells .) and actual things to GRIND FOR with knowledge of a GUARANTEED reward at the end , a meaningful reward that is . Instead it all comes from the same , single source , only dictated by RNG and with none of it being meaningful . In that regards , exotic ships/sparrows are as valuable as green ones . -Eva Levante is not here and if she was , it would actually make that whole shader situation a lot less painful (even though some lore hints she'll be back ?) -Faction vendors are not here even though they clearly have some little hubs ready to welcome them (and they're very pretty) , but so far , no word about them , and for all we know they might never come . I hope they come soon , because we need more armor and weapon sets (and shaders too) -In fact there are no vendors at all Like seriously . I noticed that when I had an exotic arm equipped , no other arm piece in my inventory and wanted to try on another exotic . I just thought "eh i'll just go buy an arm piece from a vendor" , but then I realized that none of the so called "vendors" actually sell anything . They give you packages when you rank up by turning in coins , but you cannot actually BUY from them . Right now I really want a new cloak for my hunter , but all I can do is rank up and pray RNGesus that I get a cloak and not another armor piece . Why can't we just buy specific armor pieces with a currency ? Destiny 1 had that , and it was great ! -So basically everything is RNG Like actually EVERY thing (legendary or exotic) except the four exotics and one legendary you get from quests are only awarded through RNG . all sparrows , all ships , all shaders , all armor pieces , all weapons , everything is RNG . Nothing that requires a certain rank or achievement or anything . -No Grimoire Now don't get me wrong , I love the way we have some scannable lore and info in game , but that and grimoire are NOT mutually exclusive ! You could have both ! Heck I just want a kiosk where I can read the old Destiny 1 grimoire ,that' be fine by me . It's just text guys . All 834 grimoire cards together are just 2,71 Mo of data . That's nothing . And that also means ... -No grimoire score/alternative to judge a guardian's experience and that could be very useful , in many situations . Destiny 1 had that , and it was great . -No dedicated servers ENough said -No private matches RIP Destiny E-sports . Not only that but they've specified that they had no plans to add them in the near future . Pretty much the most requested feature in Destiny 1 , and they didn't think of adding them in D2 ? how ? why ? Those can ONLY improve the longevity of the game . They've clearly decided to make pvp more competitive , yet you can't even play AGAINST friends when you want to ? Destiny 1 eventually got that , and it was great . -You can only chose between two playlists in crucible Who thought this was a good idea ? What if I hate countdown but love survival ? I can go eat a raze-lighter ? Or do I have to flip a coin everytime i launch a game ? Why can't we SIMPLY just get to choose which gamemode we want to play , and have those playlists as an ADDITIONAL option ? Literally every game has that . Destiny 1 had that , and it was great . --You have to restart matchmaking from zero after every single game_ . Every . Single . Game . Matchmaking is already slow , that only makes pvp even more of a pain . I get why you'd break up teams after a mercy rule or after a clearly one-sided match , but why do it EVEN when the teams are a perfect match ? And that's only made wore by the fact that ... -You still get put into games in progress which are almost finished and there is no penalty for quitting . SO far I've even been put in a game in which the enemy team was at 80/100 vs 40/100 and there was one minute left . it's not really fun to have to go through 5 minutes of matchmaking to get 1 minute of fun and then 5 minutes of matchmaking again . -Soloqueue players still get matched against fireteams of 4 even though their intention was clearly to make D2's pvp more teamshot-focused , with slower times to kill and movement speed , and apparently they are SOO concerned about the quality of matchmaking and the correct balance of skill and connection based , yet they didn't notice that the most important factor is and has always been whether you're playing solo or with a team with which you can communicate ? That's all i can think of right now . TL;DR : D2 has a lot of cool stuff , some really cool stuf, some bad stuff , some pretty bad stuff, some of the good stuff from destiny 1 doesn't exist anymore , and overall there's less stuff , but some of that stuff is better .
