The issue with it as far is I understand it is that it lacks humor which was part of mummy formula, and is now simply a monster movie.

The movie tries to have humour, that's very much evident by the casting of Jake Johnson ( in the role of the annoying, comedic side kick ) and his bickering with Tom Cruise throughout the movie, the problem is it's bad. The tone of the film is all over the place. It briefly flirts with ( over the top ) comedy in the first 10 - 15 minutes. It also briefly flirts with the horror genre. Most of the time it's your standard Tom Cruise action movie. What little potential the film has goes down the toilet when Tom Cruise meets Russel Crowe and it becomes Universal Pictures trying to set up monster movie franchise.
