Let's give some background on what this 'sample' probably is, and maybe some stuff you are a little confused about. You see, the dark heart in the black garden was partially darkness, but it had a greater, darker twin, named the Queen Of Final Shapes. Highlighted in Rasputin's encounters with it, most evidence suggests that it was able to possess and control human beings and other organisms to be a tide of pain and suffering. The exos were created to destroy the QOAS, since they "kill everyone they have ever known" in the deep stone crypt. Now, if this was a sample of her, then it could really change the tide of the war. However there really wasn't any "darkness" entity that attacked planets. Yes, this is fanfic, but still...
Watch out.

Sources? I've run across that phrase before but it seemed like it was being used in a metaphorical sense rather than an exact entity (being lowercase instead of capitalized in Ghost Fragment: Rasputin 4. And if you check out Ghost Fragment: Darkness 3 Toland is pretty specific that the reference to "queens" is metaphorical given his explanation centers around atoms and a simple "survival of the fittest" mindset. Where did you find the info that you based this hypothesis on?

Yeah I'm trying to base mine on the lore as definitively as possible (trying to pitch these to Bungie afterward). These articles are purely speculative. The sample I mentioned in this story was left intentionally vague for a reason: so that it can fit with the preeexisting lore. There are some fan theories that have enough existing lore to back them up (like Dr. Sundaresh being the Exo Stranger) for me to include (and I included the grimoire as well for these), but these articles are too much of a stretch with only metaphorical allusions in 2-3 cards to back them up for me to include it. Read into it what you want, but the sample Dr. Gottfried has here is of the something connected to the Darkness that he believes will give humanity an edge, but never gets to test that hypothesis due to the contingency plans if the warminds - hence why it was left vague. Sorry if I confused you with referencing the dark heart, that's just the only onscreen representation we've had of the darkness to characterize how it moves

That's ok.
