Before I write this post let me lay everything out on a plate. I love this game - the art direction is beautiful, the soundtrack is gorgeous and the gameplay is excellent. I keep coming back for more, even though the game stamps on me repeatedly every time I complete the raid by giving me weapons, aesthetic items and absolutely no raid armour (seriously guys? fml). So, what happened to all the rest of the stuff that actually makes up the "game" part?? I decided to have a hunt for the broken promises dev video that I have posted here after watching "Angry Joe"'s review video and him hitting several big issues on the head while referring to this video.
There have already been one million posts on the forums talking about the storyline and "that reddit post" - we all know something went wrong there or has been omitted on purpose (Bungie need to publicly address this sooner than later to stop the sourness spreading). So, I wont talk about that. Other than the mention of "lots of worlds" and "[you can go to] saturn" (which we will ignore for now - that needs a thread to itself) The glaring point for me was the quote about special weapons:
"You are going to see a guy wielding the [WEAPON X] or the [WEAPON Y]...and you are going to understand where they came from and what they went through to get there..."
Now, we have this in the form of exotic weapon bounties - So far I, personally, have only seen three. Thorn, Bad Juju and Invective. The only one I feel a real connection to and like I went through an ordeal to get was Thorn. When I see people with it I can relate to what they went through. So, this leads me to my main question... what happened to all of the others?
I don't have any huge issue with the random loot drop system like some people seem to - and, believe me, I have been on the bad end of the stick more than most people. It keeps everyone engaged and it doesn't punish players who are new or getting bad scores more than they are already being punished by the game/players. BUT, why do exotics drop as final form exotics and not in the form of something like a scrap of paper which has the exotic weapon bounty and then takes on a quest line - just like Thorn - with a unique mission at the end. THEN I might start to have some connection to these special guns which are meant to have this epic back story and not just assume that it is some plastic gun that some scrub is crucible dropped it by accident. Why don't certain exotic weapon bounties only drop from certain locations or strikes relating to the storyline of that specific weapon? Little things like this add depth to the "game" part of the game and keep people engaged even further.
I encourage everyone to actually watch that video in any case and start questioning where all of these things which had such promise went missing. The only way the game can become what you want it to be is with your feedback to Bungie and I hope I have made my own case with this post.
Penny for your thoughts.
[b]tl;dr - Why do all exotic weapons not drop as exotic weapon bounties from specific areas instead so we actually feel connected and have to work for them?[/b]

1 ReplyI'm so with you man, this is what I wouldve loved. And for Xur to sell them as bounties too. Give us something to work for !!

1 ReplyI always felt originally getting my fist bounty (shattered memory fragment) that that realy deserved and needed voice overs, instead of just reading text.

2 RepliesEdited by platotudes: 10/13/2014 6:48:22 PMI abandoned all my exotice weapon quests. I hate how Bungie forces you to put hours into game modes you don't enjoy playing in order to earn them. They shouldn't force you to play the game their way; they should let you play it the way you want to. All that being said, I have earned Patience & Time, The Last Word and Red Death by beating the raid and putting lots of time into PvE. I also wish you could store the exotice bounties in your vault to tackle later, because I kept getting so many that they were filling up all my bounty slots.

1 ReplyA good Point and well made! My only exotic Weapon is the Thorn and after accomplishing all the Riquirements, gathering a Party for the last Mission and completing that I feel connected with it. There is a very cool backstory for it in the Grimoire, which gives the Weapon kind of a Personality and invokes a sense of Pride while wielding it. My Friend got his two exotics through the Crucible and he's all like "They're nice Weapons but meh". As someone has said before it would be grand if there was a bit more Lore to exotics.

I hear you. Nice idea on Exotic Bounty specific missions. I have the final stage of Thorn lined up - I haven't done it yet, since I can't find anyone to do it with. But last night, my bro got Invective. He said it just felt like a series of arbitrary steps you do in order to complete it. Like, there was no real 'myth' behind the weapon. Which I understand. And its a shame, because the little descriptives for the exotics (and some legendaries) are actually quite intriguing... But as you say, maybe this is another thing which hit *cough* Activision's *cough* cutting room floor...

1 Replythe vex mythoclast, multiple exotic bounties, raid armour, and with 2 more raids coming out with the DLCs that statement is going to be very valid.
