The issue is people want higher FPS for the next gen consoles.
The point of buying the next generation console is to get next generation games. Which means Bungie must deliver a higher end preforming version of Destiny that it cannot give to the old generations.
If cross platforming was to be supported, both games would have to be identical preforance wise. Meaning graphics, FPS, and a whole bunch of other stuff would have to be basically nerfed for the next gen.
Destiny already made a huge leap in supporting xbox and playstation servers in unison. Is that not enough?

I disagree, if you have a lower end mac you can still play with a higher end pc gamer on an mmo game like wow it just looks worse

WoW isn't a FPS though. Lower preformance doesn't really affect quality of gameplay. Let's say X1 and X360 play on the same server. The X1 would have a tactical advantage in PVP because the higher performance literally affects the speed in which a player see's an enemy, can react to an enemy, Ect. The forums would turn into a flame war filled with threads such as "X1 needs to be nerfed!" Or "unfair advantages" and so on. This concept can be seen in Call of Duty. To combat lag - they made this horrible thing called lag compensation. It purposely lags all other players to equal out to the same lag of the laggiest player. The host in the public match is immune to lag compensation and makes him significantly harder to kill. It has been tested that the host can have upwards of a 1/4th second longer before you can see him. What I mean by that is the lag comp makes it so when the host sees you, he can start firing at you. But it takes 1/4th of a second before you can even see him.

Well they could still do cross platform pve

Then unfortunately people would complain about not being able to PVP together. In situations like this, it's either all or nothing. That's something I have learned from my professional career and I am sure Bungie is probably following that as well.
