Who would choose a cage after just rescuing her from a prison? That is just messed up.

Oh yes. I chose the cage on my hard playthrough just to mix things up. I think the point of the exercise is to show that some decisions are both futile and free of any significant consequence.

I think the point of it was just to make players who chose Bird because they were thinking it represented freedom feel bad. Seems like a Levine thing to do. But also probably representation of constants.
