Before SBMM I would only play crucible if I absolutely had to for pinnacles or for certain catalysts. Many catalysts I just didn't even mess with because it was PvP based, and I knew getting the required amount of kills would take an eternity and I know quite a few that feel the same as me.
Running for pinnacles most of the time I would just be hoping the match would end quickly as I got killed repeatedly, as I'm just an average PvP player.
For the average PvP player everyone just yells "git gud", but that is not an easy task when you spend more time staring at your ghost than actually playing. Atleast with Skill based matches you can practice, see what works and what doesn't and actually improve. It especially helps that PvP becomes slightly more enjoyable when you aren't constantly at a .5 K/D.
The players quitting matches of course are mad because they actually have to try for once instead of just mowing over lower skilled players 40 times in one match and they don't feel as good at PvP when they are actually playing others of equal skill.
I think having SBMM as and option on all PvP modes like difficulty levels in PvE is a good option except maybe in Trials and Iron Banner that are higher level competition. If it was an option the "Average Joes" could actually have some enjoyable matches and the others could just play how it used to be. Although I think most of us average players would prefer sticking to the SBMM option so it wasn't just a constant massacre.
