This is a serious question I am asking to the Destiny community at this point and if that is the case, should people just boycott all streamers entirely?
For the most part, when I enter these forums and I see these extreme debates about streamers and how their opinions ruin the game, it makes me more interested to know how people really think even if the streamers have a long backing of viewers/followers.

They do, but the question some try to answer instead is “should their opinion matter?” They have the ability to influence their audience’s opinion. But more often they simply represent a portion of their audience. Not as a goal, but as a consequence of the type of players they are. Not all top percent players are streamers/youtubers, but most streamers and you tubers are top percent players. They have consistent raid teams, trials teams, GM teams, Control and IB teams, etc. Many put in over 40 hours a week just playing the game and grinding at every tier of content and difficulty. Those that have gotten successful enough to have editors for their videos can put in even more time. Because of their platform they have a louder voice than most. And when they do speak, those that share their opinion are likely to get even more mobilized, because their opinion is “validated”. We see it more than we think. An influencer makes a video about a topic and suddenly there is a up tick of topics getting made on forums as though people just thought about it. For or against, and sometimes on topics nobody was really having.

2 RepliesThey do matter because they have huge platforms that can shape opinions within the community (see all the posts complaining about SBMM). Also they are an important source of viral advertising for the game. So you can’t really ignore them. But Bungie needs to understand that these guys basically work for Bungie, not the other way around. Bungie seems to be finally understanding this, and managing the game in a better way…but it took them far too long to get here.
