Quality of Life Change in the Menu (Please, enough of this already)

Please, for the love of god, stop making it so we get kicked out of the menu all the time. I mean, I'm trying to change mods or look at someone's load out while loading into something and I get kicked out the menu 3-4 times because I'm just trying to finish something! From a player POV, it is such a profoundly inconvenient and obnoxious design! Especially as we now have to spend much more time 'buildcrafting,' allow us time to do so rather than just kicking players constantly. Trust me, when we're done, we'll remember to exit the menu before starting to play.

  • I tried to set up a map for an Expedition while it was loading up and it kicked me 3 different times.

I haven't seen it in this thread yet, but it's common for people to claim that this is intentional to prevent loss of items, before it does come up here's a repost of mine from a few months back... This isn't true and doesn't make sense for a few reasons: 1. All of your gear is stored server-side. 2. You can still move gear around using companion apps during loading screens. 3. If it was possible to lose gear during the loading screen, they wouldn't let you navigate the loading screen at all, not only during the half-second between being kicked from your menu to when you can go straight back into the menu... The truth is, at launch, Destiny 1 (all the way back in 2014) had a rare glitch where you would get kicked back to orbit at the start of an activity. It was fixed in patch 1.0.2.3.
Fixed an issue where some players would occasionally be erroneously kicked at the beginning of an activity due to a server error
Unfortunately, this led to the unintended side-effect of being removed from your inventory/menu during loading screens, though sometimes, this even resulted in complete crashes. It was supposedly fixed in the very next patch, 1.0.3.
Fixed an issue in which the Player/Inventory screen would sometimes close during certain parts of the spaceflight sequence Fixed an issue that would cause a rare crash during space flight into activities
So where does the 'lost items' rumour come from? Well at the same time that these two patches released, people started to report "lost items". Those items were actually Ammo Synthesis consumables. Turns out that these errors actually stem from a glitch at the time where using a heavy ammo synthesis during loading would grant heavy ammo at the start of a PvP match. Timing for using the ammo synths was apparently crucial, using them too early resulted in simply losing the item, which a lot of people reported to Bungie's DOC.
Earlier this week we received reports of players losing investment data, something that immediately caught our attention. We’ve yet to uncover a specific bug, but going forward, we are building additional logging features that track changes to your player accounts in greater detail. In the meantime, please continue to report lost items... The DOC has noticed many players on the Help forum are reporting issues with their Ammo Synthesis consumables not working.
https://www.bungie.net/en/Explore/Detail/News/12364 Following the next update, which quietly fixed the exploit, The DOC shared this, making the connection between the mystery 'lost gear' and the fix to the PvP heavy ammo exploit:
Lastly, if you were recently banned from Destiny for exploiting a known glitch that provided you with Heavy ammunition that was not earned in battle, as of the latest patch that exploit no longer exists. We have begun lifting bans and giving players another chance to compete in the Crucible. That said, the Banhammer is always watching. Should you stray from the path of fair play, judgment will be swift. Take special notice of that last part! The team that can see you when you’re encountering errors in orbit also knows when you’re a cheat. They don’t even need to see it. Righteous science is hard at work to keep our streets clean of unauthorized ammunition.
Unfortunately, the cost of the fix was being randomly kicked from your menu during loading screens. Again, this was supposedly fixed in 1.0.3, which it wasn't, presumably because fixing it would bring back the heavy ammo exploit. The glitch was never addressed again, and I have never found any evidence of Bungie themselves saying that being removed from your menu is a beneficial feature, only that it's an unintended issue. Somewhere between Destiny 1 and Destiny 2, the unintended side-effect must have been left in because 'it has always been that way'... But now that Ammo Synths are no longer a thing, surely we can do away with it now.

      • It's odd because Bungie did something years ago to stop that from happening but it came back over time. How that happens without being noticed by them? No idea. I'm sure folks will say it isn't a priority with everything else broken in the game but man, Death by a Thousand Cuts is very VERY real. Quality of life changes should come often so the player experience isn't hurt by constant small issues compounding into a bad overall experience with the game, making people leave.

      • I created a post about this months ago and it got a lot of likes. Heard nothing about it from Bungies end. Sometimes I wonder if they even check the forums.

        • I think it was said once before that this happened because people were losing items and bugging out while changing things right as they loaded in. I'm not sure if that's still the case but it is annoying when it happens 4x or more times in a row.

        • And how about the issue on PS4 whenever I go into my menu to swap a weapon or something and it takes 30 seconds to load

          • The game has trouble supporting multiple tasks at once. When loading an activity in the background, it becomes too much to handle at times having the inventory UI open so it just backs you out. It's always been this way, but so much worse in D1. Back then we simply couldn't open the menu when flying in.

            • Also let us delete stacks of things. I have so many consumables I just want to get rid of but have to get rid of them 1 at a time with a 15 second cool down. Pretty annoying when you have over 1000 of them 🙄

                • Reporting at the end of matches is so frustrating I’m actually thinking of making a movie of every time I try to report and it kicks me, then compile these into a 4 hour long clip and spam post that errywhere

                    • What’s funny is they do it so we can see the new cool random opening ingame cutscene of our Guardians getting ready for the next match. Buuuut 9 times out 10 that cutscene is messed up. Lol. You never see the full render and most cases it skips so it can fast forward to catch up to the actual match starting.
