Just confused. I know Oryxs army was literally spanning across multiple systems at a time in order to battle entire galactic civilisations. But the fleet we see in Sol just seems so small in comparison. Did Oryx just take a small strong fleet and leave the rest of his army in other systems which Xivu has now claimed?
I mean in the cinematic of Oryxs fleet besides the Drednaught there are only 12 large hive ships visible with only small tomb ships accompanying. That just seems waaaay too small to go against any multiple system spanning civilisations and armies
The same question for Caital I know the empire fell but the cabal empire spans multiple systems and planets. I know theyve been at war with the hive for a while but they should still hve a very very large army compared to our own.. They should at least have multiple legions left to ally with yet they seemingly come to Sol to scrounge up the pretty much dead red legion as if theyre the only option avaialble to them.

From what we know from the books of sorrow, oryx’s huge army was actually all the hive army so it was also xivu arath and savathuns minions too, but after their final fight they split off as they realised they could never reach full potential while holding each other back. The other main thing to consider is that it’s just a game and the people doing the cutscene had limits especially in 2015 as to how many things they can have on screen

Sol was a backwater system with nothing to note, so it makes sense he would only take a small force. Also I suspect oryx planned on saving resources by taking everything in the system. I mean it's more efficient to steal enemy forces and make them fight you battles than use your own. As for Caiatl, they were refugees which is why they came here hoping to recruit us and the red legion to fight the hive on their home world. Remember most of their forces were wiped out by the hive.

Oryx brought a large amount of his army, but then he straight up nuked them in the process when decimating the Awoken Fleet, which is why is was significantly easier to breach the Dreadnaught than it should have been. As for the Cabal, it's hard to say. Caiatl mentioned that billions died on Torobatl, yet we don't have a confirmed number of how many Cabal existed across the galaxy in general (much less those who were soldiers); for all we know, those billions could've been the majority of the Cabal Empire. It's possible that only a small fraction of the Cabal population actually goes to war too, especially since they do have access to cloning technology.

Edited by Super Tony9661: 9/8/2022 12:57:42 PMMara took out most of Oryx's army. As for Caital the Cabal army is divided. Some still remain loyal to Ghaul or switch sides to Calus. The rest became pirates who we are currently fighting. Not to mention that it is common for empires to form smaller kingdoms when they fall. There could any number of Cabal claiming to be emperor in other systems.

3 RepliesOryx did bring a huge army but a decent amount of it was destroyed before we even arrived thanks to Mara and Oryx himself. He still had his army on the Dreadnaught but they were busy with the Cabal and due to limitations of the engine they couldn't just spam hundreds of enemies at us. As for Caiatl in lore books her army was small to begin with likely because we wiped out a huge amount of the red legion which I think is what most of her army is made of to begin with so it makes sense.

Out of Universe? Sci-fi writers have no sense of sense of scale. Fleets for interstellar war wind up smaller than even real world terrestrial fleets.

4 RepliesThinking about it, Oryx was very similar to the Shadow Monarch. Whatever dies, he Takes and adds to his army. Could be a reason as to why the amount of Hive seen was small, whatever the initial attack kills, he Takes and adds to that. Eris did say whatever we kill, he replaces.

Oryx wasn’t a little pawn of the darkness. He was as strong as a thousand gods, if you could call them gods. He wiped our civilisation after civilisation. Until you guardians showed up. He was taken out before his true power was awakened. A threat diminished so quickly. An assassination occurred when the emperor died. You can only kill a king if they don’t know your strength, but if they figure it out, you’ll die like the rest of the guardians. If only oryx had a chance. He would wipe away you pathetic guardians, but oh well. It isn’t my place to talk. I just grant wishes, oh bearer mine.
