It has 85% on rotten tomatoes, there’s nothing woke if that’s what you were worried about and it CANT be 100% lore accurate, as Tolkien didn’t write in depth about that time period, they have to fill in a lot. I hate those cringey YouTubers saying, “The fans were right! Rings of power is a catastrophe!” So in all seriousness, what the -blam!- are you talking about?
It has 85% on rotten tomatoes
Is that audience or critic score? Generally I find audience score more reliable to my tastes. When it's not being full on review brigaded.

  • That’s critic score, I haven’t checked audience yet.

I think that’s a pretty reasonable score. It’s is WELL DONE. The writing and dialog are pretty solid, the cinematography is gorgeous, and the deviations from the source material so far are pretty minor:
They gloss over First Age events like the Darkening of Valinor and the Kinslayings. Plus the have Galadriel choose not to return to Valinor when she was actually banned from returning.
But right now it does have a bit of a pacing problem. They are blazing through a lot of world building. Places and names make sense to me because I’m a long term fan whose familiar with the source material. But I could see it being confusing for someone coming to this for the first time. However that is the inherent risk of trying to adapt any of Tolkiens work outside of the Hobbit and LOTRs. The scope is so huge you risk getting lost in it. I wouldn’t attempt to watch it without seeing all six PJ movies first….minimum.

  • Exactly! (And yes the budget really shows with the visuals) I actually really like (literally can’t remember her name) the new Galadriel and Charles Edwards is rocking it as Celebrimbor! My one problem is that I think they’re rushing into the story too fast, they need material for five seasons. The fact that they are quickly setting up the rings is worrying. Who do you think The Stranger is?
I almost cried when I saw the PJ Sauron suit was being used. It’s such a good design.
•
I’m not sure. The spot where he came down looks a lot like an eye. A big game changer for me was that when Galadriel said in the beginning that, “this place is so evil our torches give of no warmth.” And the fire around his crash site gave off no warmth. Also I normally watch with subtitles, and the subtitles always said the whispers while he was writing were Black Speech. There’s definitely something very Sauron, but the character just isn’t evil enough. Maybe he suffered memory loss from the crash? Or could it all be an elaborate cover up? Another theory I’ve seen is that it’s a Blue Wizard. That would be VERY interesting. It could also fit because the Blues arrived in the SA a whole Age before Gandalf, Saruman and Radagast arrived.
•
It wasn’t Black Speech. It’s the same Runic language he carved on Bilbos door in the Hobbit. Plus he showed affinity for all the aspects of creation for the Valar that Olorin (Gandalf) served. One of which was fire. Yet his fire didn’t burn.
•
huh. We’ll see, I just can’t see the need for Gandalf this early.
•
Because this is a change Amazon is making. The Wizards didn’t truly come to ME until about a thousand years into the Third Age. I think they are just trying to ground the story by giving average viewers characters that they can relate to. Galadriel. Elrond. Gandalf. The three most important members of the White Council during the War of the Ring.
