I think it's supposed to do that, but i'm not sure. Thunderclap IS a ranged melee, so it ends up doing the same thing as most other ranged melees i've used on any class when you're too close to the thing you're punching.

Shiver is a close range melee but it doesn't do that however somebody gave a good reason and it's probably because it's a charged melee where you hold down the button instead since both Shiver and Thunderclap share holding the button and neither work with binding.
