I think SBMM is fun, and it will be better once players stop leaving games EDIT: The more I read the posts complaining about SBMM, the more I get annoyed with these so called "sweaty" players. Good players shouldn't have a monopoly on having fun in the Crucible.

  • Practice your aim, cover knowledge, and strategy and you will be able to play and have fun or just expect Bungie to hold your hand.

  • We need to discontinue all sports leagues… I mean my high school’s football team would just learn so much by playing the Patriots every other week. It’s an argument devoid of merit. If player skill is on a scale of 10… 1-3 level players shouldn’t be playing 8-10 level. And the data showed that it was happening way to often. It stinks that the higher skill players feel the changes in a negative way because their matches will undeniably get harder because the much lower skill players are gone. KD and win percentages are going to drop. It’s just how stats work.

  • It is more like you have been sitting on the bench all season and at the end you are called to play and you suck from not playing, for from the big leagues my friend but I am sure it felt that way all the time.

  • Yep, my nephew has been playing baseball for three years (he’s 7) needs to go out and try and hit that 94 fastball from mlb pitchers. He will learn so much from that experience. But here’s the thing… someone can bring facts and data and well reasoned arguments for some form of sbmm and the responses like ‘nah you just rode the bench and suck’ completely undercuts any argument you try to bring because it shows that YOUR attitude and position are about putting/cutting someone else down.

  • Not offended… and not convinced at all. If player skill is in a scale of 10, why should a 8-10 ever play against a 1-3? If you agree they shouldn’t, then you support loose sbmm. Not saying D2’s isn’t too tight right now, that’s the reality of the situation. The whole point of sbmm is to keep those huge differences in skill levels apart because it’s not good for a fun gaming environment.

Sure, then go play the modes that have had sbmm the whole time. Cbmm is a much better environment unless you are in the bottom percentile. Those of us in the know use cbmm to get better because we can face harder opponents, we can not do that in a broken sbmm system were Bungie holds your hand.

  • “Those of us in the know…” is more of the same “you sat on the bench because you suck” level of argumentation. Players are not improving in an environment where they spend the entire game waiting to respawn… period. They dip out as the population stats have shown… which is the main reason for the deterioration of the experience over the last couple of years. Skill creep is a thing as the bottom of the playerbase peace’s out. And the community skill metrics are inflated by playing vastly lesser skilled players the majority of the time… you have to see that. Bungie’s data is rock solid. Take your own advice… adapt to the new info you are reviewing about your play. Try new off meta loadouts and get better with them (and you will die more often as you learn). You are going to die more often anyway because the vastly lower skilled players that were padding your experience are gone now.

  • Again sbmm has been in several pvp modes the whole time for the lesser skilled to get what they think is a fair match but you just keep coming up with excuses as to why you do not play them. You are just full of excuses for being bad.

I haven’t mentioned my personal experience one time. I try to stick to data on these types of discussions. But I run off meta all the time… mostly sidearms and autos (loved autos since d1 … doctrine was awesome). Probably a perennial 1.0 avg kda… and it’s been much harder to play my preferred style over the last couple of years because control has gotten sweatier and sweatier. My main fault is that I’m too aggressive and over extend using weapons that are measurable worse to duel with (self handicap). Not much subclass variation in control for awhile now (way too much busted Hunter stuff). It took me 3-4 games the other day just to see another Titan to be able to kill them for a bounty. Let’s put it another way… high skilled players have cannabilized their lesser skilled competition in cbmm playlists. Skill creep has been so bad over the last year that there is no entry point for new players or players that are not PvP minded (aka the three matches for a pinnacle peeps). All of my clan mates groan at the mention of crucible matches now (but we would regularly group up together for goofing off in control heading into beyond light and probably played more crucible in d1). The introduction of freelance and zone cap into trials (along with periodic new loot) briefly increased that playlists population but it quickly declined ( to the point it almost feels like it’s about to die again). But it’s the same thing with my clan mates… trials is not something any of them are interested in other than for a pinnacle or a piece of gear.

  • There is an entry point because you say sbmm fixes it and that entry point has been provided in this game the whole time. You have stated why you do not play those modes which means sbmm was not the fix.

  • I never mentioned the other modes until trials in the last reply. Not sure what you thought you read or if you have me confused with someone else.

  • Yes, I said it that way intentionally so that you are aware the option for what you think is fair games has always been available in several pvp modes. Sbmm has always been available if that is what you think entry level players need to play, even though it has never worked in Destiny.

  • I am saying if you practice you will not be at the bottom all the time. Sbmm has been in other modes in this game the whole time, however; all of you complaining about unfair games have never played them. The reason why is because sbmm has never worked in Destiny.

  • Oh, well thanks! I'm definately trying to improve, and I'm sure SBMM will help with that Also, last season I primarily only played Comp, Elim and Trials. This is the first season Control has piqued my interest

  • Nothing wrong with getting better but if you are only playing sbmm then it will be a very slow growth. Not a dig just advice if you want to get better faster. Of course if you play other pvp games then you know sbmm has never worked in Destiny.

  • Really? It seems like SBMM is a good way to improve quickly, because everyone is playing at the same skill level. It's usually hard to find players like that

  • Those modes with broken sbmm already exist. You improve in cbmm far quicker because you have a higher chance of playing better players. Also, severe lag and ghost bullets negate skill and therefore sbmm can not work without cbmm.

  • Wait so you're saying that I have to play better players to improve, but if I play better players, they'll lag?
