I have had prostate cancer. Twice. If people want to support any cause important to them here's what you do, find a group or whatever that do good work in support of it and give them some money, your time or even just a note of support. Do something tangible. Wearing a shader in a Destiny 2 does nothing for children with cancer, nothing. Telling "your story" does nothing. Group virtue signalling does nothing.

  • Spreading a message can make a big impact. News Coverage, compaines pitching in, and fundraisers over a cause. The gold shader idea is just that - a statement piece to get people talking. As soon as it spreads, the higher chance actual contribition can happen.

  • What's wrong with showing your support for something and bringing awareness to the issue?

  • If you don't mind my asking, how is that possible? I was under the impression the prostate got yoinked out and subsequently yeeted into the trash after a cancer diagnosis.

Not quite that simple, and complications do occur. Second instance was minor and nothing to really worry about.

  • I'm sorry about want you went through but people aren't always in the financial situation to donate. Also there's nothing fake about banding together to acknowledge a problem and people who are suffering and trying to speak for them.

  • I get what your saying. I did some fundraising for the Sick Kids Hospital; so I agree that actions speak louder than words in any apsect of life. But consider getting people to "think" about the situations brings awareness. Bringing awareness sometimes leads too some of the great actions you mentioned. But it's a very personal choice, and polarisng topic so I respect what your saying.

Its all about them.[/quote] The original person that asked people to do this on Reddit lost their kid and wanted to see guardians wearing gold in honour of that. You'd have to be an absolute PoS to be against that.

  • agreed. FFS its just a show of support that literally anyone in game can do regardless of their financial positions. Normalize simple kind gestures and stop belittling them and labeling them " virtue signaling" just to use buzz terms

I didn't say I was against it. Feel free to do it if you want, I am not going to try to stop you. I would support your right to do it just as I happily voice my, and anyone else's, right to have an opinion on it. I said it was pointless emotional incontinence. Which it is in my view. Everyone in life loses someone, I have lost two parents, a sister and three guys I served with. I would not dishonour their memory for a bit of internet sympathy from strangers. But hey, that's just me. I would rather do something that matters. Its why I avoided the "support" groups when I was being treated. They helped some people but I didn't see the point in crying about something to strangers.

  • It's not dishonor to represent someone's memory for all to see.

Yeah, you're the good guy here. Name calling people simply because they have a different opinion to you and you can't make a point of your own. Jog on. You bore me.

I agree. If you wanna support a thing, the go out and actually support a real thing, instead of wearing a shader or buy some overpriced cheaply produced Bungie store item made in China... You can ALWAYS(!) support a good cause and give your money to any institution at ANY time. No need to make some awareness in a videogame or buy an in-game specific item. Not to mention you should always be aware of such things and not needing a videogame for that...
