Nope.
Whisper of the Worm is a weapon that never should have returned to the game.
Bungie thought that making it an exotic heavy would fix the problems it creates, but they were wrong.

What problems does it create?
-
Breaks the game when Bungie lets White Nail run free, and doesn’t alter the design of the game to limit its effectiveness. In its original form it breaks the games ammo economy by letting create ammo out of thin air. Plus it lets you bypass having to reload as long as you can chain crits. If why Bungie has to break White Nail every time…. …and it’s why bosses are smaller and faster to make the weapon less effective. Why flinch has been as bad as it’s been. …and why bosses that can’t be made smaller and fast (Fallen Walker) either no longer have crit spots. Or have them protected in ways that severely limit the usefulness of WoTW and White Nail. All of this to deal with a weapon that never should have EVER come back to the game.
-
I agree. They should have made black hammer but given it triple tap, fourth times and vorpal. To make it a good sniper that’s balanced. Like from a quest or something. A curated roll. And only curated kinda like a ritual
-
It’s a broken weapon that is overpowered by design. A game design dead-end.
-
The version I described is good
-
White Nail is what defines the weapon…and makes it broken. What you described makes for a powerful sniper. One that is not game-breaking. But it’s not WoTW/ Black Hammer without White Nail.
-
Yeah I mean at lest they could call it that. The name doesn’t determine the perks.

Edited by kellygreen45: 9/1/2022 2:04:48 PMTrue. But when I talk about these weapons what I’m really talking about is White Nail. Everything else about them can be worked around.

Edited by OopsYourself: 8/31/2022 8:10:07 PMKings fall completely negates this point (other than the nerf to white nail). Giant, un-moving enemy with a huge Crit spot, and WOTW isn’t even discussed in most groups. Linears and Izanagi’s completely outclass it in every role it could fill. Nerfing the damage some, and putting it in the special slot would be fine balance wise.
-
Exactly people are like it does so much damage. Yeah but it’s practically unusable and outclassed. All exotics vsould have some use that makes them unique and able to compete with each other.
-
Against Oryx Whisper actually beats out almost every single weapon for DPS. I think the only weapons it doesn’t beat out is Stormchaser and the Taipan.
-
So why would you use whisper? You can do more dmg with another heavy and have an exotic primary/secondary. Again no point for the whisper
-
Edited by Ramby: 9/2/2022 2:35:28 PMEven if it was special there would still be no point of using it. They would nerf the damage with it being a special weapon which means even less people would use it. Why would you use it over something like Arbalest or Witherhoard and just use a legendary special sniper? The issue isn’t the weapon it’s the fact that majority of the bosses either move around to much, they don’t have a long enough damage phase to get every shot off, or the crit isn’t easy to hit multiple shots in a row without Divinity.

Kingsfall is a raid that was added to this game back in 2015. And Bungie SUNSET all of the previous year’s raid weapons (including WoTWs predecessor Black Hammer) to get them out of the game and protect the raid from White Nail.
-
Ok so if it’s already “dealt with” what other reason would there be to leave it on heavy?
-
Because the white nail perk still gives free ammo and it’s much more powerful then any energy/kinetic sniper in the game buy a big margin.
-
No the needed it like they nerfed Black Hammer. The white nail takes form your reserves.
-
Last I heard white nail perk when proc'd takes 2 from reserves and give you one round for free.
-
Edited by RopeAdope: 8/31/2022 8:36:59 PMI agree with that theoretically but how many times you think ppl realistically proc white nail in a given boss fight unless they just stand there vulnerable without moving and while you’re not getting blasted with flinch? There’s still a lowered max ammo count and they’ve nerfed it many times already as well as ammo drops and reloading overall I just don’t believe it would be an issue to move it to special. Sure, there’s some cracked shooters out there but gen-pop? Dunno bout all that. I’m sure there’s other factors and their data justifies heavy retention. I just don’t see it is alll Edit: IOW, “real world results will vary”
