Everyone's go-to us the same ole, same ole A10 Thunderbolt II, and it always comforted me to know they were around, but...
I'd prefer a pair of Apache Longbowa on standby with an AC130 loitering.
Yup, A-10s are fine, but Gunships are where it's at. Long loiter time, good cameras, and lots of munitions. Reapers are surprising useful as well. They are a nice upgrade from preds.

THERE'S A WARNING AT THE BEGINNING OF THE VID, BUT FOR OF THE MORE SENSITIVE SOULS HERE, CONSIDER YOURSELF ADEQUATELY WARNED.
That 4+ hour loiter for the 130 is huge. And even if I weren't ex-Army and pulling a bit for the home team, the Apache's ability to deploy so close to the action and make reaction times incredibly fast, make it a must have.
Apaches are pretty good. I forgot to mention them in my reply. Most Army people I know preferred Kiowas, but sadly they aren't around anymore. Mostly because they could see the Kiowas.
