This isn't a new topic by any means, but as I've been attempting some solo flawless challenges on various activities lately, it just reminds me why I generally put these on the backburner for a long time. So many boss encounters are composed of "insert platforms with large areas to get pushed off to your death." Why so frequent? And when you get stomped, why is it necessary to throw you into the next galaxy so you are very likely to not recover unless you have a sword? Even then, you can't always make it back.
Yes, you need to be aware of your surroundings so you don't get stomped or blasted by a phalanx. That doesn't make these mechanics any more engaging. It would be nice if there were a way to build into stomp resistance or something similar so we can mitigate the severity of the push. Perhaps you have to sacrifice something else in order to have higher resistance. That's fine, as you wouldn't need it for all content. Seeing as I don't see them changing these mechanics after so many years, it would be nice to have some way to at least work around it.
It's just such a cheap death. You could do everything right in a dungeon, get to the final boss, be close to finishing them off, then make one small mistake and get just a tad to close, then get stomped across the map with no way to recover. Of course, you then run it back and try again, but it's still disheartening because it's not like you were being careless.

Edited by Takkonen: 8/24/2022 4:23:00 PMAt this point, I can only assume some of you are a bit touched. At no point was I asking how to keep from being stomped. I was simply commenting on the mechanic and how it feels like an artificial/lazy way to introduce some sort of challenge. And by that I mean, to keep people from just burning down a boss with no risk. There has to be different ways to modify this behavior so it's not quite so annoying. To reply to a few of folks who I can only imagine are angsty teenagers, given the type of responses posted. - I'm not complaining about intentionally getting into melee range with a boss and then wondering why I got stomped. - I know you can melee prior to a stomp to keep from being knocked back. - I know you can block with a sword. I know certain abilities allow you to move out of the way or get back from being stomped. Those are all very specific and doesn't address the underlying issue I brought up. Besides, I generally never intentionally get into melee range with a boss unless a sword strat is the most ideal and isn't right next to a pit. Sometimes, things happen. If you're staying at a safe range, but a boss TP's on you before you have time to jump away in time because you weren't expecting it; that can be irritating. And yes, you can learn behavior and try to keep outliers from happening, but this still doesn't change the base complaint about the mechanic in general. Again, some people have missed the point entirely. It's not the most pressing issue in the game by any means, but providing possible ideas for how it could be made better is great. That is the entire point of this section of the forum of course. If I was looking for ways to mitigate it (which I already know) I would have asked in one of the other sections.

People still struggle being near bosses??

Honestly it just seems like a way for them to nerf certain load outs for encounters.

1 ReplyDid you get stomped? Did it hurt? Boo boo 🤕🤕🤕🤕🤕🤕🤕🤕🤕 You know if you melee the boss as he stomps you won't go flying right?
-
Honestly, enemies shooting me with guns feels like a very lazy way to introduce “challenge”

use melee, ez

4 RepliesI don’t think Bungie does this to create challenge. I think they do it to protect the blind spots of bosses. For some reason they don’t want us getting up very close to bosses and fighting them there. Imo it’s because their ranged attacks don’t reliably work up close. So the goal is to knock us back to a distance where the boss is once again a threat. As annoying as the stomp mechanics are…and they are hella annoying… they aren’t as bad as they used to be. They were so out of control in D1 that it was basically a guarenteed OHK even from strike bosses. So players backed off and fought from range. Bungie has had to let up a bit as bosses have gotten smaller, faster, and they’ve been trying to force us to fight them at mid-ranges.

Lament negates them both
-
Yes they are but what do you expect from a lazy bored developer that's given up on creating new strategy.
-
I think more counters to stomp mechanics would help here. I don't see bungie removing stomps anytime soon

3 RepliesMaybe stop trying to hug all the bosses and keep your distance 😂
