So, im fairly new to the game, and bought the witch queen, did the campagin and most of the missions on the evidence board, then i bought the beyond light a week ago , first, i anjoyed the campagin much more then the witch queen, it has much more story into it even if its shorter. there are actuall good exotics to get, and lots of ecotics mission to fo after the campagin, and dont forget the whole new subclass who hard counters pretty much everything.
So despite pretty much any discord i got into, i've enjoyed beyond light much more then the witch queen, and i dont understand the hype about the witch queen, can somome explain?

I think beyond light was a much better storyline and campaign but gameplay wise not as good as witch queen and also game balancing.

1 ReplyThe hype is typical new content hype and finally seeing savathun who's been building for a long time. A new subclass was supposed to drop with WQ but they pulled it after stasis caused so much backlash. New subclasses need to be strong n stasis was wild, n they didn't want the new one getting hate so soon after stasis. To back up your case, go to Europa, it's always full of players, go to the throne world, hardly anyone there. It died within 2 weeks. Beyond light has lots of filler for post campaign, witch queen had nothing, all budget went into the campaign Destiny expansions are very meh, the game is built as a skinner box to trap addicts on a hamster wheel and milk them. It's the same 700-800k core base that play almost daily, doing the same thing over n over n over.

The Hype for WQ was because years Savathun was in the Shadows and after 4 Years of Teasers for her...we finally saw her and fought her.

2 Replies1. Witch Queen resolved storylines going all the way back to the beginning of the franchise. So this was a big deal to veteran players. Harder to appreciate for newer players, understandably. 2. Beyond Light gets a bad rap because this community tends to judge content based on how they feel about what is going on in the wider game. A lot of things people were upset about happened in wider game at that time: a. Bungie sunset all the weapons from the first two years of D2, and got rid of the very popular, but absurdly overpowered Pinnacle weapons. This has to be done to get three years of power creep under control. b. The Destiny Content Vault was created. This game was designed to be used for three years and then abandoned for a Destiny 3 via Bungie’s contract with Activision. When Bungie bought their way out of that contract they wanted to keep supporting D2. But the game had gotten so large that it was running poorly on ps4 and XB1. So Bungie had to remove old content that basically no one was playing, to make room for new content while still being able to run on these old machines. If they hadn’t done this D2 would have become like Cyberpunk 2077. A game that runs on pc and current Gen consoles, but was unplayable on ps4 and XB1. Despite this necessity, this made a lot of players mad. Especially pvp players who don’t want to engage the rpg aspects of the game and had grown used to using Menagerie as a directed farm for whatever was currently meta in Crucible.

Witch queen has the better story. If you enjoyed BL story better, that’s okay. But WQ story does much more in terms of where destiny is headed. Also, savathun is the second best villain in destiny, after her brother. And, unlike almost every villian in destiny history, her showing up wasn’t “hey here is a new villain out of nowhere. Defeat her.” She has been around for a while now
-
Beyond light campaign better then WQ? Bruh. What. 95% of players disagree. That’s okay though, at least you’re one of the few that liked it better. As long as you had fun👍

I wish witch queen had a second drop point to the planet. But I love the planet regardless. It has these wildly different areas and so many secrets crammed around every corner. Exploring it is a real treat.

4 RepliesI feel like Witch Queen wouldn’t have been so great if it didn’t have the legendary campaign difficulty and an interesting story. Plus the story beats of Beyond Light’s seasons really helped build up the lead to Witch Queen. I still feel like we got cheated out of a new darkness subclass in Witch Queen, even if it was to tune the existing light subclass to work like stasis from Beyond Light. Then again, it was because of stasis being shipped out too strong that Bungie went back to fix the existing light subclasses before bringing in a new dark subclass. I like both Witch Queen and Beyond Light for different reasons. I pretty sure most people who hate Beyond Light were mad for other things that happened when Beyond Light came out. Like weapon sunsetting and content vaulting. Though stasis was a pretty big problem in pvp, but I don’t play crucible that much to really care.

2 RepliesBeyond light was an amazing story and great season. Witch queen if it wasn't broken up into seasons would have been the best destiny dlc to date and worth its whopping $70 more if you're whale like me. I loved savathuns story and the season overall. Beyond light was legendary because of stasis which is why it's my favorite subclass outside of void. No subclass shook the foundations of the game like stasis or truly made everyone equal, it really showed just how powerful the darkness us and how it can turn a no into a pro quick. Eramis was a great Villain and fallen villains in general get slept on like skolas and the skorn barons.

If you can't understand the difference narrative wise then there's no point. Tbh beyond shite existed to transition the game to a higher framerate state with throwaway clovis bray and who knows or cares eramis and they achieved this buy selling an at the time way overpowered new subclass. But there's 1 thing all of destiny's replacement content (their not expansions as that implies the games getting bigger which is not the case because of the dcv process) they never have definitive exciting finishes either was that it or wtf happens now endings

Because beyond light’s campaign sucked story wise. It had the same garbage “hunt the boss’s underlings and then the big boss” plot that rushed all the way to the end. Witch Queen had an objectively better written and paced plot that fit the themes that the writers have been trying to relay in the past year and a half of storytelling.

SlingshotNerdStormcaller 3.0 is not good; needs buff - old
Beyond Light felt like a filler episode in anime, whereas Witch Queen was actually the main story. -
1 ReplyThere was a ton of build up to TWQ, and it was arguably the most impactful expansion in the games history (from a narrative perspective). Also, did you play the Legend difficulty campaign? I'd assume you may not have if you're a newer player - which is totally fine - but the Legend version is widely viewed as the 'right' one to play. Its a totally different gameplay experience when compared to any Destiny campaign, and if you haven't tried it already I highly recommend going back and doing it.

I would have to say that a lot of content was added to beyond light after launch. Initially it was pretty barebones but there was a steady trickle, and missions were added to the subclass stuff every season. But I don’t agree it was better than witch queen.

1 ReplyPreferred Beyond Light to Witch Queen myself. Europa is a stunning location and beautifully designed. Music was great and we got stasis. Witch Queen campaign on legendary mode was fun but the story was pretty meh, Beyond Light's with the Exo stuff was more interesting and engaging for me personally.

4 RepliesBeyond light is one of the worst dlc in destiny history
-
1 ReplyBeyond light was terrible, the story was bland, and the fact they have stupid patrol missions between campaign mission is so stupid
-
The main reason why beyond light was hated only because of sunsetting and content removal, which isn't really connected to dlc. I personally love beyond light content and enjoyed it more than the witch queen, but legendary campaign slaps, beyond light had a very meh story. And pvp was ruined by stasis, so that's why much more people like witch queen more
-
Both dlc's I've enjoyed and to not go on a big rant. I do believe most players who enjoyed the witch queen are because of a couple of reasons. Mission difficulty hasn't been a thing for a while so something a little more challenging was nice. I think also the main thing was as well for those who are big into the lore and characters of the game. The whole thing with Savathun has been building up for years and it's now here. I could be wrong on both points though. Glad you've been enjoying yourself <3

Personally I think Witch Queen was better but the reason you don't feel the same is you missed alot of important lead up. You would of had to play the Season before launch and paid attention to Lore and background stuff about Savathun, you missed the build up to it. Where Beyond Light was a standalone story where there was no build up so you could pick up from DLC start and follow along. So overall Witch Queen was way better, way more emotions it tugged on and etc but you missed the prequel pretty much. As for exotics. You are right. Parasite is cool. But the glaives suck. Heartshadow I have and it sucks and has worse stats then Lament. And the other two exotics there pretty were Grand Overture and something else SUCK. Witch Queen was very pathetic in terms of weapons both exotic and legendary. Other DLCs brought forth more gear and often better gear. Also DSC is better than Vow. But again. Witch Queen was probably the best campaign yet.

Idk but I did enjoy beyond light a bit more than which queen, could be because elden ring came out and I completely ignored destiny for about two months, forsaken is still my favorite expansion so far tho.

Edited by Jeidd: 8/22/2022 11:09:51 AMSimply put it like this witch queen has weapon crafting and a better story. Beyond light has the stasis subclass you can unlock.

Edited by QUIET INFINITY: 8/22/2022 11:10:59 AMHalf of Beyond Light is just filler content, walk there kill fallen, walk there kill vex, go there do lost sector. Thats not a campaign, its openworld fetch quest system. There are around 4-5 good missions in the whole campaign. Beyond Light story is also underwhelming compared to Witch Queen. I agree with the exotics and Europa is my fav. planet. I enjoyed both but WE felt more like a real campaign.

I think the sandbox was the worst it has ever been in beyond light since HCs had 10x more kills than the second most used primary in Trials. To put that in perspective, remember that awful AR meta HC mains like to whine about? ARs only had 30% more kills than HCs in trials. Thankfully the sandbox is better today with PRs, Scouts, and SMGs having a place in the sandbox. Lightweight bows look like they might be good in PvP next update as well. ARs will still be booty though since they were over nerfed in beyond light.

Nothing to explain. Its subjective. You preferred the Beyond Light dlc. Someone else prefers Witch Queen. Someone might not like either. All there is to it.
