Been watching a few old King’s Fall gameplay videos on Youtube and i just realized how good Whisper would be if it was Special, you could run it with a Machine Gun or Rocket on heavy, and that will honestly be better than leaving it as it is a “Heavy Sniper Rifle”, same thing with Darci too! So yeah i bet that will increase its usage and versatility too? I guess.. ofc a Damage balancing should be done if it would become a special weapon, maybe removing Whispered Breathing’ll do it? The ball is in your court.

3 RepliesWhisper and Darci seem like they’ll never be relevant again tbh
-
And call it black hammer again.
-
2 RepliesYea no Keep it as a heavy and keep it useful The heavy that need to be changed to secondary is Queen breaker

I would like to cast my vote for Whisper being moved to the special slot. I would also like to add “snapshot sights” somewhere in the transition but I’m worried the pvp community would hunt me down and such. Thank you. 😅
-
They’d have to nerf it to put it in the special slot. It’s too strong for a special. But it’s not strong enough to be used as a heavy rite now with other heavies out dps it. Bungie should definitely do something to it.
-
2 RepliesIt was made heavy because of how much it dominated in the past But I think if it could be tweaked slightly it’d be alright to go back in the special slot

As far as I can tell its ammo efficiency is really good. I'll definitely try it in nightfall next season with barrier because I really enjoy it. Without question the triple tap made a huge difference for it but people still don't want to give it a go. It feels really good in the Preservation mission, not that that matters on the surface lol but the implication -- ammo efficiency -- is promising. I'm pretty sure its efficiency is only beat out by Lament and DoT weapons like Witherhoard and Anarchy. Also fun fact, Leviathan's Breath is pretty close to Whisper's efficiency. But anyway, sometimes efficiency is a great characteristic; in practice it means you can use the gun very often in whatever you're doing. And if you are compliant with the challenge of hitting crits, which I am because it's an engaging challenge for me, then it's not just good, but it's definitely a solid choice at least, in my experience.

3 RepliesThe best part of people parroting this claim is you don’t even having to figure out if they are being disingenuous. We had over a year of whisper being a heavy weapon and a stand out dps weapon. What slot a weapon goes into and what type of ammo it uses has zero impact on how good it is. Bungie balances their game by artificially decided a meta and what’s good during periods of time. Weapons like whisper won’t be good until bungie decides to make them good regardless of what slot they are placed in. However last time it was good the community cried non stop about how boring it was being forced to use whisper for dps.

They would have to fully retore the white nail perk to make it viable in the special slot and worthy of taking an exotic slot.
-
I still wouldn't use it even if it was brought into the energy slot. It's simply competing with too much in that slot, and the kinetic slot has very good legendary snipers and Izzy. It is better where it is even if it's not great either. If its current iteration is simply not good enough without making it over the top, then it needs an entire rework.
-
3 RepliesDARCI needs a rework making it special won't save it as for Whisper it's at the point it can compete just needs a small push I don't really wanna take the risk of it becoming bottom of the barrel again just so it can be special. Plus I don't think Bungie's gonna risk it being a power house again like it used to in D1 and was for a long time in D2.

Edited by TheShadow: 8/20/2022 10:14:57 PMSome things should have been left alone. Bungie and 343 seem to be the 2 developers that for some weird reason they think they can reinvent the wheel. So when they change things that were unnecessary to change, those things usually end up worse off than they were in the first place.

10 RepliesWhy are people STILL trying to use whisper for dps?! Its clearly meant for pvp after its ae buff.

Making it a special would just end up getting the weapon nerfed into the ground again. The REAL problem with Whisper isn't the weapon itself, but that the game has changed in a way where using snipers in general is discouraged. Just look at how more and more bosses have weird/smaller crit spots, are more mobile, have shorter DPS phases, have ads surrounding them during damage, etc. Whisper works best on bosses that barely move, barely attack/defend during DPS, and have large crit spots. But those bosses are becoming increasingly smaller.

53 RepliesNo. It’s a game-breaking weapon.
-
Because it would be the only used special. People underestimate its damage. It far outdamages every other heavy in total damage. Remember...every 3 crits you get 2 ammo back. That means it can shoot well over 60 times before running close to low ammo if you hit your crits. So if we have a boss damage phase of an hour you can maybe shoot all your shots.🤣
-
Nah but they should bring the mission back, I really enjoyed that.
-
Perfect for.....oh I dont know....Warpriest and Golgoroth???!??!?
-
Black Hammer
-
12 RepliesThey're never going to do that. Stop asking.
-
It would be complete garbage as a special weapon.
-
5 RepliesWhisper is honestly too powerful to be put into the special slot, Remember how there are era's of meta defining weapons ? First in d2 there was coldheart, then there was the perfect paradox, the Ikelos shotgun, sleeper, and then came along whisper of the worm. The gun that LITERALLY ate this game alive, almost into year 3 even. It was without a doubt the best gun in the game for a VERY long time. It also brought forth one of the best pve activities to date. Anyway, Lets keep it as it is.

Why change them BOTH to specials? Whisper being a heavy makes it more unique, and it is still good in the right situations, so why take that uniqueness away? Also, whisper/black spindle/black hammer has always had the identity as a really heavy, slow paced, hard hitting take on a sniper rifle, so it fits thematically for it to be a heavy weapon. Darci on the other hand is pretty weak and doesn’t feel heavy at all. It has a short weapon model for a sniper, a reload animation more like an auto rifle, and a faster rpm with low body shot damage, so it makes no sense for it to be a heavy weapon. Darci would fit much better as a special weapon, albeit with an appropriate damage reduction.

1 ReplyEdited by jesushorses: 8/20/2022 10:10:58 PMWhisper is going to be anti-barrier next season. As far as dps, it’s still great. You have to have whispered breathing and hit your crits and you can get 18 shots in the time it takes to do three honed edge izanagis. Darci is ripe for a catalyst rework. But your issues are with a damage archetype not the weapon. My absolute 5/5 reconstruction/recombination 10 mag Succession still isn’t as good as a whisper in the right hands. Situational weapons.

Whisper was amazing quest and amazing sniper ….which I haven’t touched in a few years . Why not a special 🤷🏼♂️
