Bungie,
Can you tell us in one of your future TWABs why D2 playerbase is declining and what’s your plan to prevent that.
FYI: The above link (chart) shows steam population only from one major expansion to another. The chart shows the following 2 problems… a major decline in returning players at the start of each expansion, and another declining trend the very next month right after the release of each expansion.
Here is another chart showing today’s D2 Population for Steam, PSN, and Xbox
https://imgur.com/gallery/IXGgcnI
Although it shows steam population around 50% the more realistic number is around 35% for each of these platforms (including steam). Regardless of the exact percentage… steam population on average represents one-third of the overall playerbase… and that can be used as a viable indicator that there is a major problem for steam D2 playerbase.
Lastly, I suspect that console playerbase is facing a similar trend in decline from one major expansion to another. Although I do not have any numbers to back up such statement.

3 RepliesThis is why I play Warframe. They don’t have a Seasonal Model. They do things the old fashioned way of launching huge updates every 6 Months or so and they give you plenty to do while you’re waiting for the new expansions so you don’t run the risk of content drought. Bungie needs to go back do that old fashioned way of releasing DLC every 6 months. They did this in D1 and many complained about content drought, there would have been no content drought if Bungie released a gave us enough stuff to do until they release the new huge expansion.
