Why is Bungie's Storytelling so unfriendly to New Players?

The Storytelling is fine, calm down.

The Storytelling could be better.

The Storytelling is inaccessible to new players.

Take a look back at Y1 (of D2)* for a moment. Beside all of the poor gameplay choices that Bungie made, they still managed to tell a great story for new players to experience. Take a look at what we have now, and realize that New Players load into the Destiny 1 mission, only to be met by John Guardian, who proceeds to take New Lights under his wing for exactly 4 missions before dumping them at the Tower. Where is the direction for players to go? What story is there to experience that will convince new players to purchase DLC's? Am I wrong to think this way? I've had so many people call me ridiculous for thinking this way.

It’s gotta be funny when a new light does witch queen campaign. “Savawho? Never heard of her.” There should be in game ways to learn about what happened in the past and to get caught up on lore. Whether through dialogue with other characters or those nifty artistic cutscenes bungie does. I guess there’s that past events thing that you can view, but a short description of what happened is hardly fitting for such a long story.
