If you go by the implication that the elements that the light wields are natural fundamental forces that are simply bent to our will (as is implied by the “switch to light subclass button”) then stasis and any other darkness elements are not natural to the universe, but are instead imposed by the darkness. If they were true fundamentals, there would be no reason the light couldn’t also wield stasis itself, but instead we need the darkness to wield it.
Also for those who say solar is opposite to stasis, one of the lore books says that stasis also halts the electromagnetic interaction in particles, which is an aspect of arc. This is more just to say that I think the darkness elements are not strictly meant to be opposites to each of the light elements.

I didn't notice that part about Stasis. Good catch! As for the Light subclasses, it's possible that both the Light and Darkness are capable of manipulating fundamental forces, but Light does so to increase chaos and complexity, while Darkness wields them in a way that simplifies and reduces.
-
But darkness can also wield the “natural elements” as well, divinity and ruinous effigy are both weapons of darkness. I think it’s more that the light, due to its dogma?/beliefs?/rules?, does not want to force itself upon reality, only bend and push things into complexity, so it can only bend the natural elements. The darkness couldn’t care less the state of reality as long as it’s goal is achieved, so it will use anything, even if that means constructing an element unnatural to reality to stop the light.

The fact that some Darkness weapons (ex: Divinity) and entities (ex: Hive Knights) can use Light elements definitely strains my theory. My headcanon is that all elements (void-form, arc-decay, solar-stasis) can be used by both Light and Dark forces, but while they are generally capable of wielding both sides of each element, their true nature is to use these elements in a way that is compliant to their paracausal rules. Your proposition definitely challenges my idea of Light and Dark elements.

Edited by ReticentHope417: 6/12/2022 12:51:02 AMHive boomers aren’t strictly dark-arc energy either, only the arc blasts from wizards and Crota are referred to as the darkness. Hive boomers are said to be rotting star fire. Also I’m not trying to just throw out random bs: in the grimoire of destiny 1 it is stated that hive boomers are powered by a husk of rotting star fire.

And here I was thinking I had the slightest grasp on Destiny lore. On the bright side, the Hive Boomers are proof that the elements don't need specific paracausal energies to be wielded but can manifest in natural or non-paracausal processes. Which means the theory lives! Also out of curiousity, where can I find this lore? I'm trying to become something of a Lore-Daddy myself.

Something I would like to mention, at least to my understanding of elements. Solar Arc and Void are naturally existing fundamentals of the universe. Anything can technically harvest them with light, dark, or neither. Take stars for example. The implication of solar subclasses, void subclasses, and the hive boomer lore entails that a stars life cycle shifts between all the natural elements. The general life span of the star is solar, while in death they can collapse as void supernovae, but in rebirth (life after death) the resulting white dwarf is probably considered arc, as it most closely relates to what a “rotting star” can most likely mean. Coming back to the lore implication of light subclasses, it’s possible the Light will strictly only bend natural order to achieve what it wants, thus it will only ever wield solar void and arc. The darkness however, since it doesn’t care, can use the natural elements, but in order to get an upper hand against the light, construed it’s own unnatural element (as oxymoronic as that may seem) to widen its Arsenal against the Light. That element being stasis. Another way to look at it is like this: It’s pretty reasonable that the natural elements are solar, void, and arc, and that they can be used by anything. If stasis is truly also a natural element, there should be no reason that wielding the darkness itself would be requirement to harness it. But even as light bearers, we must inherently wield the darkness to channel stasis, which would elude to the prospect that it is not natural to reality.
-
So that would mean that the next darkness subclasses wouldn't have a pattern based on natural laws, but could literally just be anything the Darkness comes up with. I like that angle of thinking.

I think Ishtar collective retains all possible lore between D1 and D2, from grimoire to lore pages all the way to the lore tabs on weapons and bounties.
